“Cover your head in order that the fear of heaven may be upon you.” The Talmud
The Talmud is equivalent to an Old Testament commentary that has grown in status to being basically equal with the Old Testament itself for Jewish people.
Along with the Mishnah, the Talmud is considered to be THE main guide for daily life. When Rabbinical Jews study the Old Testament, they also study the Mishnah and the Talmud, the oldest and most-quoted Jewish commentaries of the Old Testament.
Jewish men began wearing kippahs around 150-200 AD. There is no requirement to cover one’s head, but it’s considered a symbol of reverence to God.
The style often represents a Jewish person’s denomination or sect. For instance, a white satin kippah usually means you’re conservative or a reformed Jew. Black velvet kippahs are associated with the Haredi or Orthodox Jews.
Many Orthodox Jews wear kippahs at all times, except when sleeping or bathing. Even non-Orthodox Jews sometimes wear kippahs while praying or during one of the seven Jewish feasts.
Orthodox/Rabbinical Jews
Orthodox Jews (also referred to as Rabbinical Jews) are the strictest of the Jews. They’re the ones who tear their toilet paper into squares before Shabbat begins because they won’t tear it on Shabbat. That would be considered doing work on Shabbat, and therefore breaking one of the Ten Commandments.
They also are the ones who won’t push buttons on the elevators on Shabbat. So each hotel has a “Shabbat elevator” that opens and closes automatically, slowly going up and down one floor at a time. A Rabbinical Jew can simply step in and step off the elevator. Don’t ask questions.
Of course that’s a problem for Christians if you’re staying in a high-rise hotel and need to go 20 floors to get to your room…and accidentally get on the Shabbat elevator!
Orthodox Jews also wear different hats depending on their sect.
God’s Barrier From Sinful Man
The idea of needing to wear a Jewish head covering comes from the layout of the Jewish Temple. Designed by God, there was a curtain between the Holy of Holies where God resided and the Holy place where the Levites carried out their priestly duties.
The Temple layout from above looks like this... note the curtain barrier in red.
In 70 AD the Jewish Temple was destroyed by the Romans. Over time, the Jews have basically substituted the kippah as a symbolic barrier curtain between the Jews and God.
This is why you often see non-Orthodox Jews putting their hand on their head for a covering when they pray.
As Christians, we know that the barrier curtain was torn open, from the top to the bottom, when Jesus died on the cross. This symbolized our sins were paid for and therefore we have direct access to God—no curtain needed.
Wailing Wall
On our trips to Israel we always stop at the Wailing Wall, or Western Wall, as the Jews prefer to call it. The nickname Wailing Wall came about because the Jews, having no way to sacrifice to temporally cover their sins, would pray/wail at the closest place to the location where the Jewish Temple sacrifices took place. Their prayer/wail is for their beloved Temple to be rebuilt so they can go back to sacrifices.
The Wailing Wall is divided—males on the left side, females on the right. In the bottom left of the picture below you can see three women standing on chairs in order to be able to see the Bar Mitzvah taking place on the men’s side. (A Bar Mitzvah is a celebration for a male Jew turning 13 years old.)
The separation of men and women is because a woman could be having her period and therefore if a man touched her he would become unclean/defiled.
When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. Lev. 15:19
The entire passage about women AND MEN becoming "unclean," Lev. 15:19-33, is fascinating to read.
Also notice that all the men have their heads covered with either a kippah or a prayer shawl. Non-Jewish visitors are allowed into the area but are required to wear head coverings. When in Rome…
It’s Jewish tradition to write a prayer to God on a piece of paper and insert it in the cracks at the Wailing Wall. Christians should not put prayers in the Wailing Wall any more than they should pray to Mary instead of directly to God. 
But recently Mike Huckabee, America's Ambassador to Israel, visited the Wailing Wall wearing the required kippah. He took a paper prayer to insert in the wall's cracks...but the prayer was written by President Trump. Oh well… politics over religion.
“My first act as ambassador was to take [President Trump's] prayer – praying for the peace of Jerusalem – and to bring it to the Wall, and to pray that there would in fact be peace in the land,” Huckabee stated. He added, “I also come with a prayer that all of the hostages will come home now, and that we will bring them home, and that is the prayer of the president as well.”
I asked an Israeli guide once why the Jews put those prayers in the wall. Sounding somewhat frustrated she answered: "You Christians pray directly to God like you personally know Him." What a fascinating observation! 😃
It’s not sinful to wear a skull cap or to place a paper prayer in the wall. But it doesn’t make your prayers any more likely to be answered than it would if you crawled on your knees and beat your back bloody with a stick. If you're a Believer, He hears you in real time.
As we continue to plead, there's nothing you can do or not do to make yourself more or less sanctified or more or less acceptable to God. It’s not about you, it’s about Him and what He did for us on the cross.
Praise the Lord He chose for us to live in this day and age...as Believers in the Church Age!

Human cells can “hear” sound waves, potentially changing how we treat conditions like obesity, according to a new study from Kyoto University.
By connecting a digital audio player to a diaphragm placed in a cell culture dish, researchers were able to observe how cells reacted to different sound frequencies audible to humans from two to 24 hours.
They found that sound within the audible range led to significant cellular responses, including a reduction in the transformation of precursor cells into fat cells. This means the sound prevented the formation of fat cells.
Kumeta and his team designed a system to surround cultured cells with sound waves. They used a set of sound patterns, which included white noise as well as single-frequency sounds at 440 Hz and 14 kHz, representing a low and high frequency within the human audible range, respectively.
According to Kumeta, the properties of sound could be used to treat obesity without surgery—simply by attaching a sound-generating device to the body.

Joining a national trend among conservative states, government schools and buildings in Arkansas must display the Ten Commandments and the national motto under a new bill signed into law by Gov. Sarah Sanders Huckabee.
The bill mandates a “durable poster or framed copy of a historical representation of the Ten Commandments” to be posted in government-school classrooms and other buildings across Arkansas. The display must be readable to a person with average vision… Go Sarah!
