How do we know the words in our Bible are the ones we should believe over all the other religions?
What is the difference between the writings of Muhammad and the Jewish/Christian Bible we have today?
Or between Confucius and the Jewish/Christian Bible?
Or between the Mormon Bible and the Jewish/Christian Bible?
Or between the Hindu or Buddhist writings and the Jewish/Christian Bible?
Since all religions basically talk about who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, what separates our Bible from all the rest?
There is only one thing that separates the Jewish/Christian Bible from every other book— and that’s Bible Prophecy. None of the other fake religions can predict the future, so they don’t.
Roughly 30% of the entire Bible is Biblical prophecy—some 2500 prophecies. Over 10,000 of the 31,102 verses in the Bible contain prophecy. So God certainly thinks Bible prophecy’s important!
“Behold, the former things have come to pass, now I declare new things; Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you.” Is. 42:9
But more importantly, 2,000 (80%) of those recorded Bible prophecies have already been fulfilled with 100% accuracy. And those prophetic fulfillments were not vague, but rather very specific. Here are five simple examples:
The Bible predicted Jesus’ birth city, Bethlehem, 700 years before His birth (Micah 5:3).
The Bible predicted Jesus’ death by crucifixion before crucifixion was being used as punishment (Zech. 12:10).
The Bible predicted a man named “Cyrus” would destroy Babylon, conquer Egypt and the rest of the known world, and let the Jewish exiles go free, 150 years before Cyrus was born (Is. 44:28, 45:1,13).
The Bible predicted the Jewish Messiah would be born of a virgin 735 years before Mary gave birth as a virgin (Is. 7:14).
The Bible predicted the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem on a donkey 500 years before it happened (Zech. 9:9).
That was just five of the 2,000 fulfilled prophecies. And all are 100% accurate. Only God can predict the future. The false religion’s inability to forecast the future shows that their gods are worthless.
The Bible even challenges other gods to put up or shut up:
Let them [false gods] bring forth and declare to us what is going to take place; As for the former events, declare what they were, that we may consider them and know their outcome. Or announce to us what is coming; Is. 41:22
The supernatural aspect of Bible prophecy proves God Himself inspired every word of the Bible and we can trust all of it word for word.
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2Tim. 3:16
Anyone could claim to be a prophet of God and special privileges were afforded to them.
Therefore to make sure a prophet was, in fact, God-ordained, God set up a simple evaluation system.
Prophets prophesied short-, medium- and long-range prophecies. If a prophet prophesied one single thing that didn’t come true, he was stoned to death because God doesn’t make mistakes.
If a prophet said the enemy would invade on Monday, but the enemy invaded on Tuesday, it was time to stone the prophet to death.
“But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.” Deut. 18:20
“You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’ When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." Deut. 18:21-22
When a prophet spoke, his words also had to line up with existing scripture. For instance, if a prophet said they should worship other gods, he was to be stoned to death.
“So you shall stone him to death because he has sought to seduce you from the LORD your God…” Deut. 13:10
The Jews saved the writings of those prophets who stood the test of time. That’s how we got the prophetic books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Micah, etc. Today we pore over these prophecies to see what’s coming.
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7
And so here we are today, studying Bible prophecy to understand the timing of the coming 7-year period of God’s wrath on earth. We know that it occurs just before the Lord returns to reign as King of the World for 1000 years.
But, thankfully, we also read in the prophetic writings that Believers will not have to endure that time of God’s wrath.
For God has not destined us for wrath, 1Th. 5:9
With that kind of promise from God, Paul then adds:
…therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, 1Th. 5:11
This admonition mirrors what Paul had written in his first letter to the Church in Thessalonica when he wrote specifically about the coming Rapture removing Believers from the earth.
Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1Th. 4:18
So as things get more and more crazy, as we watch the signs that we're close to the time of God’s wrath on earth, we’re to be encouraging and comforting to one another.
Seeing signs that the prophesied day of God’s judgment is approaching should not shake our faith.
Rather, when we interact with others, both Believers and non-Believers, we want them to be able to see “peace” in our lives, not fear.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:7
They should see the stability we have in our faith because we can trust what God has said in His Holy Bible.
… rejoicing to see your good discipline and the stability of your faith in Christ. Col. 2:5
Our faith is strong because we stand on a mighty Rock.
“Trust in the LORD forever, for in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock." Is. 26:4
Use us, Lord!
