We’ve discussed in the past the fact that at the time of Christ the Jews would go to synagogue every Saturday to read
Old Testament scriptures written on scrolls. They had a specific start and stop point so that once a year they would have read through the entire Pentateuch—Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
At the end of the year they would re-roll the scroll back to Genesis and start over. They would also read through portions of other books in the psalms and the prophets and roughly every five years they would read the entire Old Testament.
So it’s interesting that they would hear the account of God creating the world in six literal days 40 times by the time they were age 50 or so. As well as hearing God's inspired account of Noah and the worldwide flood. They would be steeped in the miracles of Moses and the Red Sea.
They took the Bible literally and they believed that in each verse the Lord was talking to them personally. They believed all the recorded miracles to be literal… like the account of Jonah being swallowed by a huge fish.
But [Jesus] answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Matt. 12:39-40
Redundancy, reading and rereading scripture is apparently a big deal to the Lord in Bible teaching, so I'm going to be redundant here on the subject of how people get saved in the Tribulation.
I keep hearing the same question about how people can get saved in the Tribulation if there is no Holy Spirit on the earth. I’ve discussed this in the past but apparently need to hit the highlights again.
The answer is pretty simple… After the Rapture, they get saved the same way people got saved before the Rapture—by faith. Read Hebrews 11.
They get saved the same way they did prior to the cross (a different dispensation), people had faith that the Lord would save them with a future Messiah/Redeemer. After the cross people had faith that the Lord would save them via Jesus the Messiah Who came and paid for their sins.
After the Rapture, in the Tribulation, people will also have faith that Jesus the Messiah had come to save them.
Here’s a proof-text verse... think about what Jesus is saying here:
“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (God’s Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." John 16:7
Therefore it was mandatory that Jesus ascend to heaven, leave the earth, to enable God’s Spirit to come to earth post-cross and indwell those who get saved.
And therefore, the reverse would also be true. The Holy Spirit must depart in order for Jesus to return to earth. After the Rapture Jesus first shows up on Mount Zion teaching the 144,000.
Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb [Jesus] was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads. Rev. 14:1
The green line below represents Jesus …on earth before the cross... in heaven until after the Rapture.
Jesus standing on the earth could not happen unless the Rapture happened first. Sorry mid- and post-tribbers, that leaves no room for anything but pre-Tribulational Rapture.
Jesus charges these 144K to evangelize the world. The next thing we read is that they are quite successful in their evangelism effort.
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, Rev. 7:9
These Jewish evangelists convince uncountable numbers that it’s better to die as a Believer and go to heaven with Jesus than to go along with the Satanic system, with Satan running things on earth.
“These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." Rev. 7:14
“For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat;" Rev. 7:15-16
They get saved and they go to heaven when they die, but the Holy Spirit is not on earth and never once indwelled them.
It is quite the privilege to be indwelled by the Holy Spirit on conversion. A privileged few Believers fully understand today. Adam was indwelled, but he was created that way. Then he sinned and God’s Spirit departed his and Eve’s life. I can't imagine what that would have been like.
Only after the cross were people able to be permanently indwelled by God’s Spirit immediately at salvation. And after the Rapture, it won’t happen again, no indwelling Spirit will show up.
But people still get saved by faith, just like the Old Testament saints.
