"But Jesus answered and said to them, 'You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures, or the power of God.'" Matt. 22:29
There's no substitute for knowing scripture backward and forward. Because if you know your Bible well, you can, as Daryl Kraft says, “think in verses.”
If you can think in verses, you are most likely to respond to what the Lord allows in your life in a Biblical manner. So knowing your Bible is second in importance only to salvation.
In fact, the last thing you want is to remain an “infant in Christ,” not knowing the “scriptures.”
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, for you are still fleshly. 1Cor. 3:1-3a
Rather, we’re to mature in our knowledge and understanding of scripture…
“…equipping the saints for the work of service…until we attain…the knowledge of the Son of God to a mature man…” Eph. 4:12a,13
Today we’re privileged to be living in the dispensation, or time period, of the “Church Age.” It’s a unique time where the Creator God, who spoke the universe into existence, actually lives in us.
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1Cor. 3:16
God’s Holy Spirit did not permanently indwell Believers who lived pre-cross and He will not permanently indwell Believers post-Rapture in the Tribulation.
The biggest benefit of God’s Holy Spirit living in us is that as we study the Bible, He illuminates our understanding of what we’re reading.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, John 14:26
The Holy Spirit gives us “understanding” so we’re not “mistaken.”
God also warned those of us living in the Church Age to keep our doctrine sound.
But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. Titus 2:1
The words "sound doctrine" literally mean “healthy teaching.”
holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. Titus 1:9
But we have failed miserably. Today there are almost as many doctrines as there are churches.
Granted, no one has all their doctrine perfect. We’ll all get our doctrines corrected in heaven. Hey, we mortal sinners have a tough time understanding the depths of an eternal and limitless God.
But God has inspired for us His Holy Scriptures as a guide for spiritual growth.
…we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, Eph. 4:15
So we seek to know God more intimately to serve Him best. The more we know, the more we grow!
Part of our growth is to meet regularly with other Believers being taught with a pastor-teacher. And it's especially important today as we get closer to our screamingly exciting rescue.
…not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day [Rapture] drawing near. Heb. 10:25
God inspired Paul to plant churches, and they met weekly. These were small groups of Believers who usually met in homes studying both the Old Testament and the God-inspired letters to the early churches penned by Peter, Paul, James, Jude and John. All were Jewish apostles except Luke.
For each church group the Lord raised up a pastor-teacher.
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Eph. 4:11
The Greek construction of that verse implies that “pastor” and “teacher” are two characteristics of the same person. He is called to shepherd (watch over) while instructing and equipping his flock to serve the Lord.
I was recently dismayed to read an article published by a respected online ministry(1). The author was lamenting how the Church as a whole seems to be doing more entertaining instead of evangelizing.
I obviously agree with the writer that a church that justifies using entertainment to increase its numbers is "as wrong as rent." The Bible says God adds to the numbers, not entertainment.
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47.
You can’t talk someone into heaven… God is in charge of who gets saved.
And I also believe that Christians are empowered to share the good news about Jesus Christ when God opens a door of opportunity… and that we should be constantly looking and praying for that opportunity.
praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, Col. 4:3
As we’ve said so many times, the thing that matters most in life is who goes to heaven and who goes to hell.
People don’t actually die, they just move on to one of two places. And one is far superior to the other. So being used by God to share your testimony has to be on the forefront of individual Christians.
But that command is to individuals. It’s not a command to, or the purpose of, the local church!
The main purpose of a local church is to train and armor Believers to be better used by the Lord.
A church is a gathering place for born-again Believers to be taught the scriptures, pray together, share spiritual gifts, bear burdens in order to actively serve the Lord while engaging in Christian life.
"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth." 2Tim. 2:15
A pastor’s job is to teach God's Word to his flock in order to armor them up to be used by God in the lives of those in their sphere of influence—i.e. family, friends and place of employment.
"And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;" Eph 4:11-12
A pastor must teach the entire Bible, mostly verse by verse, book by book. Otherwise he is using his sinful mind to pick and chose what to teach.
"For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God." Acts 20:27
A pastor must teach that the Bible is accurate and trustworthy. From the creation in Genesis 1 to the New Heavens and earth in Revelation 21, he must teach why the Bible is 100% true.
A pastor must teach and believe that Adam, Eve, Noah, Jonah, Moses were all real people who were involved in real miracles. He must teach and believe the future Rapture and Second Coming of Christ WILL happen.
"All Scripture is inspired by God [God-breathed] and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2Tim. 3:16-17
Church is, first and foremost, for Believers.
"preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction." 2Tim. 4:2
There’s nothing wrong with inviting someone you're witnessing to, to come to church with you. And Peter did preach to thousands on the day of Pentecost where 3000 or so got saved. So speaking to large groups of unbelievers like a Billy Graham crusade is ok.
The bottom line is that Believers are the ones who should be armored up to do the evangelizing. Sunday church is for armoring Believers.
The idea that bright lights, secular-sounding music and watered-down sermons will keep people in the pews simply misses the purpose of going to Church.
Size should not be a church’s focus or a reason to be considered successful. If a pastor has a church of 30 people, that’s what God gave him and his primary job is to armor them for Christian service.
Susie and I were having a wonderful dinner with a quite well-known ministry leader. There were about 10 of us eating at the table.
He asked me what I thought about a particular church who had become successful by surveying the neighborhoods to see what it would take to get them to come to church.
I answered that the methods used to build the size of the church were nothing more than “tickling the ears” of people.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 2Tim. 4:3
Well, he responded harshly that I was dead wrong. And that I should not talk so poorly about such a successful church. You could have heard a pin drop.
The rest of the dinner was a bit subdued because, thankfully, Susie, my wife/gift from the Lord, was there to pinch me under the table every time I wanted to take issue with his defense of that church.
There’s a time and a place for everything and since we were invited guests, that was not the time or place. I can only hope the Lord used me to plant a seed, either with the well-known ministry leader or the others at the table.
But again, a successful church has nothing to do with how large your congregation is, how much money you have in the bank or how big your building is...with or without a mortgage.
If God wants a pastor to have a larger church of 50, 100, 300, or 3000, God can, and occasionally will, do that. But God has to do it.
A pastor‘s or elder’s emphasis can’t be on increasing the attendance by watering down the message, ignoring Bible prophecy (so as not to offend) or incorporating anything beyond teaching the Bible verse by verse.

(Ok, I’m not knocking coffee and donuts…I think that falls under “fellowshipping.”) 🙂
If a pastor spends 10 or 20 years training 30 people correctly, God could use them to take on the world. Or just armor families with the Word in order to live successfully in Satan’s wicked world. Again, God's call.
Pastors often remark that if they had only 30 people they couldn’t survive financially. I would say that’s a quite small view of God. If God wants a pastor to be successful, He will provide the funds.
Sometimes God may use finances to test a pastor and elders to make them better. But often finances are poorly allocated.
There is nothing wrong with having an un-mortgaged church building but should a long-term push to build a church building take priority over families who are struggling in the church? Asking for a friend…
If everyone in the church ends up leaving, that’s God saying it’s time to close and that he should not be pastoring.
But we know of a pastor who got down to one person for three weeks in a row, and ended up with a vibrant church of well-taught solid Believers.
If God is bringing in people to be taught, they will be the ones attracted to a solid Bible teacher who is teaching solid doctrine week by week. The place of teaching doesn’t even need to be in a special building, a home is just fine.
The first churches that Paul planted were all in homes. It was not the number of people that made his church plants successful, but how well they were being armored for service.
In Revelation 2 and 3, there is no mention of a successful church having anything to do with buildings, money or stage lighting.
God may orchestrate a church to grow larger but the pastor’s or elder’s goal should never be to have a larger congregation.
A pastor is no different than any other sinful human being, he’s constantly being targeted for downfall. Whether it’s sex, money or ego behind the push for a larger congregation, if your Church is led by one charismatic individual who thinks a big church is a measure of his success, there's a good chance he’s doing more for Satan than God.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 1John 2:16
I can assure you on Judgment Day, a pastor will not be evaluated on how large his church was. He will not be evaluated on how big his building was. He will only be evaluated on how well he trained those whom God brought for him to teach.
As Paul encouraged pastor Timothy:
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 2Tim. 4:2
Last thoughts...
A good church usually has a good pastor. When a Believer feels motivated to attend seminary, or even to start a church without going to seminary, he usually thinks one day it would be great to have a large church congregation to teach each week.
It's not necessarily sinful to think what it would be like if the Lord gives him a big congregation. But from the beginning he should be willing to teach whomever God brings him.
He will be responsible for their spiritual growth while his adversary is lurking around in the shadows. Paul warned:
“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them." Acts 20:29-30
And if you haven't noticed, almost all great churches fail the test of time. Satan's had 6000 years of practice on humans. But God is in control of all.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Phil. 4:13

As it turns out, all the numbers recalibrated (fessed up) were released by the government that originally purported to show a wonderful, growing labor market through March 2024... were 100% lies. The labor market was actually collapsing, not growing.
And the lie was grand. Over 800,000 fake jobs were included by the Biden/Harris Administration to create the impression of economic growth.

Van Jones showed remarkable humility in responding to his interviewer’s unbearably arrogant question. As the interviewer waxed eloquent in developing his theme of “how could dumb old Trump do x,” Van visibly grew increasingly uncomfortable. Finally, he interrupted:
Look … Listen. So, so, so, everybody keeps … you have a framework in your mind that ‘how can Donald Trump, how can Donald Trump, how can Donald Trump.’ Guys, can we cut it out? Donald Trump is not an idiot. Let me just be very clear. Donald Trump is smarter than me, you, and all the critics.

If Biden succeeds in pardoning Fauci, it sets a dangerous precedent: that public health officials can act with impunity, no matter the harm caused.
Fauci—a stranger to every parent in America—oversaw the administration of 72 mandatory vaccines for children without ensuring they were safety-tested.
It’s hard to fathom, but Fauci admitted this in court under oath, forced to come clean after years of dismissing concerns. None of these vaccines were subjected to pre-licensing, placebo-controlled trials. Not one.
Even worse, Fauci knew the truth all along. He dismissed critics as liars, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who relentlessly pursued the truth. Fauci’s defense? He couldn’t provide the studies Kennedy demanded because, as it turned out, those studies never existed.
Now, President Biden wants to pardon Fauci for his negligence.
This is unconscionable.
Fauci’s actions weren’t mistakes—they were part of a deliberate system that prioritized profit over safety. By bypassing safety testing, Big Pharma saved hundreds of millions of dollars while raking in billions in profits from mandatory vaccines. The federal government helped them by requiring 78 million schoolchildren to receive these injections each year.
What better business model could there be? No safety testing. No liability for harm. No marketing costs. And behind the scenes, even the NIH is earning royalties.
The consequences have been devastating.
Neurological diseases in children have exploded. Autism has surged from 1 in 10,000 in my generation to 1 in 34 children today. Conditions like ADHD, sleep disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, and narcolepsy have become shockingly common.
Our children are paying the price.

CDC declares first "severe case" of Influenza H5N1 in the US and California declares State of Emergency over bird flu on Dec.18, 2024 - they're trying to do it again!

So what was normally a flu season is now considered a pandemic season. And they try, try, try to make the normal sound horrible... to scare us back into masks.

98 percent of those who were getting ill had been vaccinated consistently six to seven days prior to illness.
The excuse was that the vaccine did not have time to become effective. However, according to an immunologist on the team, the six to seven-day period was also the length of time it would take an under-attenuated vaccine to make the recipient sick.
Doctors in hospitals reported that the very ill and dying children did not have symptoms consistent with normal cases of measles. When the outbreak began, blood from the first thirty-nine cases had been sent to Australia; only seven samples were positive for measles.
When the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Health and Human Services Secretary comes before the Senate, the specter of the Samoan measles outbreak of 2019 will dramatically be invoked to challenge him. Kennedy’s critics have repeatedly relied on this topic, citing stories that claim he was responsible for an epidemic in 2019 that caused at least 83 children to die due to vaccine hesitancy. Recently it was breathlessly announced that a new chapter of the Bible had been found that was written in 250 AD. Don't believe it.
In 325 AD the Council of Nicaea met and formed what is now considered the "Biblical Canon." The council determined 70* books to be divinely inspired.
This supposedly new chapter was written 75 years before the cannon was completed. If the Lord wanted us to have that portion in our Bibles, it would have been included.
So, at best, this is just more of the non-canonical scriptures found throughout history. And not inspired scripture from the Lord. So they are playing with fire...pun intended.
