Rapture In The Old Testament

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. Prov. 25:2

One of the most important events in the Bible is the Rapture/rescue of Born Again Believers at the end of the Church Age. The Rapture is necessary so Believers don’t have to endure God’s wrath in the Tribulation. 

Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 1Thes 1:10b

But the Rapture is more than just a rescue, there’s a practical side to removing Believers pre-Tribulation. 

Every Believer has Jesus living in them. Therefore, if the Church Age Believers were not removed, Jesus would be bringing His wrath on Himself. 

That dog won’t hunt. 

Church Age Hidden From Jews

We know the Bible says the mystery of the Gentile inclusion in God’s redemptive plan was hidden from the Jews.

and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things; Eph. 3:9

The word “mystery” in the Greek is "mysterion," and it means "truth undiscoverable except by divine revelation." 

Paul confirms this when he said:

that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, Eph. 3:3a

Like Paul, we have God’s divine Holy Spirit living in us so we can often understand deep Biblical truths.

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law. Deut. 29:29

But even though the Church Age was hidden, it was hidden in plain sight in the Old Testament. Consider this verse in Exodus:

The LORD also said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.” Ex. 19:10-11

We’ve written in the past about the last days corresponding to the last three days of the seven 24-hour days in the Creation Week.(1) 

This theory is based on this verse that follows his discussing the last days. 

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 2Pet. 3:8

Therefore, if each day of the 24-hour-day Creation Week is LIKE 1000 years, giving us a 7000-year template of all of man’s history, then this theory fits like a glove.  

In the Exodus 19 verse above, “today and tomorrow” is a reference to the Church Age, which is two days, or 2000 years, long. 

The “third day” is a reference to the Millennial Reign of Christ, which lasts 1000 years. The Lord comes back between the Church Age and the Millennial Reign of Christ and will be “IN THE SIGHT OF ALL THE PEOPLE.” 

“In the sight” can only mean the Second Coming where everyone on the planet sees the Lord coming. In the Rapture only Believers see the Lord in the sky.

The Church Age is also pictured in Hosea 6:

Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, that we may live before Him. Hos. 6:1

You plainly see the “two days” of the Church Age are followed by the Jews being revived on the “third day,” which is the Millennium, when the Jews will be living before Jesus their King. 

So the Church Age was hidden to the Jews who did not have a permanent indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit. But Believers do have this scripturally illuminating Spirit and can see it plainly referred to in scripture. 

So did God also hide the Rapture in the Old Testament? Yes He did! First, let’s look at people who were removed/raptured in the Old Testament.  

People Who Have Been Raptured In The OT

There are several instances in the Bible of God taking humans from earth to heaven. Here are examples in the Old Testament.

Enoch did not die but was taken to heaven, apparently never to return to earth as a human.

Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. Gen. 5:24

Elijah was taken to heaven in what was the first UFO sighting.

As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. 2Kings 2:11

Isaiah 6:1-13 records Isaiah taken to heaven, but he was returned to earth.

I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Is. 6:1

And in the New Testament, Paul was taken to heaven, but also returned to earth.

I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago — whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows — such a man was caught up to the third heaven. 2Cor. 12:2

So the simple concept of a human disappearing from the earth is well-established in the Bible.

Rapture in the Future

The Rapture of Believers is a Biblical fact. And every prophecy student worth his/her salt knows the two main Rapture verses in Paul’s letters:

Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet;  for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we [Believers alive at that time] will be changed. 1Cor. 15:51

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, 1Th. 4:16-17

There are other New Testament verses referencing the Rapture, like Matt. 24:40-41; Luke 17:34,35; John 14:3; Rev. 18:4, to name a few.

Therefore, being such a huge worldwide event, it’s highly likely that God hid some Biblical truth in the Old Testament that's discoverable. 

Since the Rapture was hidden in the Old Testament, there are no explicit verses. But what we find are Rapture verses that are implicit. We find inferences, not references. We find verses that are indirect, not direct. We have to dig a bit.

There is also the possible double meaning in a verse. For example, Isaiah 14 begins discussing the King of Babylon, but after a few verses it abruptly changes to discussing characteristics of Satan. (The King of Babylon didn’t fall from heaven.)

There’s a similar reveal in Ezekiel 28 when it begins discussing the leader of Tyre but changes abruptly to discussing Satan. (The leader of Tyre wasn’t in the Garden of Eden.)

So let’s look at some interesting Old Testament verses:

Psalm 57

Gather My godly ones to Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice. Ps. 50:5  

In discussing the future Tribulation (“fire devours before Him” v. 3), this verse could easily be addressing the Saints who are covered by Jesus’ sacrificial blood. His godly ones are first removed. Belivers are the "Godly ones." 

Much like Rev. 18 opens with statements about the fall of Babylon, and then back-tracks to say “Come out of her my people” v.4, the verses in Ps. 50 and other prophecies also do not always run concurrently.

Interestingly, the verses in Ps. 50 discuss Israel being judged by the Saints coming from heaven. For us to come from heaven to judge Israel at the end of the Tribulation, we would have to already be in heaven—which means a previous Rapture is implied.

Joel 3 uses the same terminology regarding coming back to the Valley of Jehoshaphat for judgment. The Saints (“mighty ones”) would have to already be in heaven.  

Bring down, O LORD, Your mighty ones. Joel 3:11b

Isaiah 57 is another verse about removal of the good guys from coming evil:

The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, Is. 57:1

Micah 7, when taken literally, discusses Israel and the Tribulation. It shows devout/righteous men taken away in a confusing event…they are taken away from evil. The confusing event would be the Rapture taking away the righteous/saved before the evil 7-year Tribulation. 

The godly person has perished [been taken] from the land, and there is no upright person among men. Mic. 7:2

In Micah 7:1-9, Israel is shocked at a tremendous event that leaves her alone. That event would be, of course, the Rapture.

Someone has come harvesting and left them with nothing. There is no peace and they are threatened from all sides.

Israel questions why they, as God’s chosen, must go through more suffering…especially after watching another great group rescued. 

They seem to question their interpretation of scripture. Their religious leaders are lambasted for overlooking the great event/Rapture because they were more into tradition than seeking revelation.

The result of this post-Rapture confusion is also seen in Isaiah 28 where it discusses their post-Rapture 7-year covenant/treaty:

Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made a pact [would be a reference to Israel making the 7-year treaty which begins the Tribulation]. The overwhelming scourge [lashed/something done to them...va((ines?] will not reach us when it passes by, for we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.” Is. 28:15  

Micah 7 actually begins with Israel beginning to realize their predicament …all the godly ones are gone from the great exodus. The great harvest has left them with nothing. 

Woe is me! For I am like the fruit pickers, like the grape gatherers. There is not a cluster of grapes to eat, or a first-ripe fig which I crave. Mic. 7:1

The gatherers could be a reference to the Rapture, which is often referred to as the great “gathering” based on this verse:

Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2Th. 2:1

Micah 7:2 explains Israel is in a state of shock. With the Great Restrainer’s departure taking all the righteous men, everyone left behind is evil and without restraint. 

The godly person has perished [been taken/vanished] from the land, and there is no upright person among men. All of them [those left behind] lie in wait for bloodshed; Each of them hunts the other with a net. Mic. 7:2  

All the godly and upright peeps are gone. This can only be a reference to the Rapture. And it’s followed by a world cursed with unrestrained evil. 

Isaiah 57 teaches us that this event is followed by evil:

The righteous man perishes (is taken/disappears), and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, Is. 57:1

There will be great confusion after the Rapture. Many will question what just happened. But the conclusion is those that vanish were taken away from evil.

Micah 7:3 describes a lawlessness that favors the rich who can pay off those in charge, including the judges. Post-Rapture will be a mess. 

Sort of sounds like what we had under the Biden Administration—if you want it, you can have it… if you have enough money.

In the 1970s, before I was a Believer, I needed a state zoning law changed for a business I wanted to start. I had donated to the ruling political party, so thinking I could get some favor I called the local representative for advice. He told me no problem.

He point blank said all I had to do was to go see “Gerald,” who was an attorney and the Governor’s brother. I was to tell him what I needed and he would then tell me how much it would cost to get it. 

I questioned if this was legit and he told me absolutely, “that’s how it works, Gerald will tell me the cost of whatever I wanted. It doesn’t matter what it is you want, you can even be Governor if you have enough money.”

For the record, I didn’t pursue the offer. Instead I sued the state, and won the case.

I think the Biden Administration operated in a similar fashion, times a thousand. Maybe lots of other state and local governments too. 

And this is all before the Restrainer of evil departs! It will be a mess, post-Rapture!

President Trump is one of the few exceptions and is really shaking things up because he doesn’t need the money. But I digress……

Micah 7:4 continues with more post-Rapture problems confusion, destruction and terror. 

Micah 7:5/6 explains how they can’t trust anyone because everyone is a potential snitch … neighbors will turn in neighbors, children will turn in parents. 

Psalm 12 just flatly says the godly and faithful simply disappear/are Raptured).

Help, LORD, for the godly man [Believers] ceases to be [Heb: = completed/fulfilled], for the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. Ps. 12:1

When the godly are Raptured, they are completed/fulfilled in their new eternal bodies.

Just like in Micah 7, in Psalm 12 it shows that in the aftermath of the disappearance (Rapture), lying prevails, along with a rejection of Jehovah God. 

They speak falsehood to one another; with flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks great things; Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?” Ps. 12:2-4

Noah’s flood is a picture of the future that includes the Rapture. There were those who perished in the flood (the unbelieving world), and those righteous who went UP in the ark above the destruction.

Sodom and Gomorrah pictures the Lord removing Lot and his family from prior to His judgment. 

Since both Noah and Lot are mentioned as examples of what it will be like before God’s wrath in the Tribulation, Noah could be referring to the Church being taken UP above the Tribulation. Lot could be referring to the Jews being taken off to the side…Petra.

The Story of Joseph has Joseph taking a Gentile bride before the 7-year worldwide famine begins (Gen. 41:45). This mirrors the worldwide famine in the Tribulation. And Joseph is in Egypt, representing the world.

Rahab and the Jewish Spies

In Joshua 2, Rahab befriends and trusts the Jewish spies. By faith she puts a scarlet thread in her window (a symbol of Christ’s blood). 

Rahab and her family are “brought out” of Jericho before the city is burned with fire (Joshua 6). 

There were 7 days of warning before the destruction, which fits with God’s seven days of warning given to Noah. Since the days of Noah are JUST LIKE the days before the Rapture, we’ve theorized the Church may be given a 7-day warning before the Rapture occurs (2)

Rahab is a prostitute (Hebrews 11:31) and a Gentile woman (Joshua 2), yet she ends up in the Messianic line. 

Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse. Matt. 1:5

What an example of God’s forgiveness!

Isaiah 26 paints a picture of the Rapture before the Tribulation:

Come, my people [the Rapture], enter into your rooms and close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while until indignation [the Tribulation] runs its course. For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place [the 2nd Coming] to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; [Armageddon] Is. 26:20-21 

Malachi 3 discusses the Day of the Lord and implies there will be two comings of the Messiah because in the context, the Believers return to the earth. And, of course, to return they need to first have been Raptured.

So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. Mal. 3:18

Abigail and David

David sent a proposal to Abigail, to take her as his wife. When the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, “David has sent us to you to take you as his wife.” She arose and bowed with her face to the ground and said, “Behold, your maidservant is a maid to wash the feet of my lord’s servants. Then Abigail quickly arose, and rode on a donkey, with her five maidens who attended her; and she followed the messengers of David and became his wife. 1Sam. 25:39b-42

So here we have King David, who foreshadows Jesus as Messiah, telling Abigail he wants her for his bride. She “quickly arose” [up], departing to go to the marriage. In Matt. 25:1-13 there are five wise virgins who went to meet the bridegroom away from their dwelling place (earth).

BTW, the name Abigail means “the Father’s joy.”

Isaac and Rebekah and Ruth and Boaz are examples of Jesus taking Gentiles as His bride. Rebekah and Ruth are willing to leave their own families but don’t suffer tribulation or famine.

Zephaniah 2

Before the decree takes effect — [before] the day passes like the chaff — before the burning anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger comes upon you. Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth who have carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be hidden in the day of the LORD’S anger. Zeph. 2:2-3

Here we see that Believers will be hidden in the day of God’s anger.

Song of Solomon

SOS is a great picture of Christ and the Church. 

“Listen! My beloved! Behold, he is coming, climbing on the mountains, leaping on the hills! My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, he is standing behind our wall, he is looking through the windows, he is peering through the lattice.

“My beloved responded and said to me, ‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come along. For behold, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for pruning the vines, and the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land. 

‘The fig tree has ripened its figs, and the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come along!’” Song 2:8-13

The Bride (the Church Age Believers) hears the voice of her “beloved” (Jesus) coming for her. The Bridegroom responds by calling His Bride to “arise” and “come along.”

Daniel And The Fiery Furnace

In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar (a picture of the Antichrist) demands his whole country bow down to his image (Rev 13). 

Daniel’s three friends (Jews) are protected THROUGH the fiery blaze much like the Jews will be protected from the fires of Tribulation on earth in Petra.

The first sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. Rev. 8:7

Even though Daniel was the ruler over the entire province of Babylon, he was mysteriously missing. So Daniel, referred to as “greatly beloved,” represents the missing Church after the Rapture. 

So, not surprisingly, the Lord clearly DID hide the Rapture in several places in the Old Testament. And not only that, cumulatively all those verses point to a pre-tribulational Rapture!

In Brussels, Muslims waving Palestinian flags and chanting pro-Hamas slogans stormed a Christmas market over the weekend—and they weren’t spreading holiday cheer. Those Islamists decapitated the head of baby Jesus in a nativity scene, showcasing the true target of their vitriol.

We saw a similar situation in Germany, where Islamists showed up at a Christmas market in Essen, waving Syrian flags and chanting “there is no God but Allah” and, of course, “Allahu Akbar.”

This year, the Magnaberg Christmas Market has been cancelled, and Christmas markets across Germany are ramping up security due to the Islamic threat.

280 Muslims now occupy offices across all U.S. governmental levels, with six being mayors, including Abdullah Hammoud of Dearborn. Why, neighboring Hamtramck, Michigan, recently became the first American city with an entirely Muslim government.

They called it a civilizational jihad. Their plan involved softening America through cultural influence, political infiltration, and demographic expansion. The strategy is unfolding exactly as documented, and still, many people refuse to acknowledge it.

UK Man Arrested For Posing With Gun In Photo Taken While In The US

A British IT consultant was arrested by West Yorkshire Police after posting pictures on LinkedIn of himself holding guns during an American vacation.

Jon Richelieu-Booth, 50, shared the photograph taken at a Florida homestead on August 13.  The post sparked a 13-week ordeal, which began with a police warning at his residence.  Officers cautioned him about online content and its "potential impact on others' feelings."

In the past year at least 12,000 arrests have been made in the name of "quelling hate speech," an ill-defined violation based on arbitrary guidelines and left up to the whims of leftist bureaucrats.

For instance, they're arresting people for posting memes and pics online of citizens hoisting British flags... in the presence of immigrants. You know, hate crimes. Sad but true.

Elon Musk, who has been highly critical of UK's censorship policies,  posted about this situation on X:

“And this is why we have the first and second amendments in America...The first amendment in the US protects freedom of speech, while the second amendment relates to the right to bear arms..."
