There’s a great gathering at the beginning of the Millennium. Who's gathered, what’s the purpose and from where?
Background:
Israel spends the first 3 1/2 years of the 7-year Tribulation in relative peace and prosperity, insulated from the world’s problems by a protective covenant orchestrated by a New World Leader.
All other countries will be reeling from billions of people dying due to war, starvation and pestilence.*
I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth. Rev. 6:8
With 1/2 the population of the entire earth dying in the first 3 1/2 years of the tribulation, Israel will stand out like a sore thumb.
Israel already exports energy (gas) and food (daily to Europe). She has ample water supply from her desalination plants.
And by early in the first half of the Tribulation she’ll find her long-lost mammoth Solomon’s treasure hidden somewhere in the Dead Sea area.(2)
This will prompt the Ezekiel 38/39 invasion of Israel led by Russia, joined by Iran (Persia) and several other countries.
The world is astonished as Israel repels the invasion.
So all of this will cause the nations of the world to seethe at Israel’s protected prosperity while humans will be dying by the billions.
After Israel shockingly defeats Russia and the other nations, she’ll get complacent. A year or two later, in the middle of the 7-year Tribulation, the New World Leader will break the peace covenant.
And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, [7 years] but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; Dan. 9:27
Therefore, God forewarns Israel that the peace covenant will be broken and when this happens the Jews should “flee to the mountains.”
Israel’s told to watch for two things to happen at the halfway mark of the Tribulation, and when the Jews see them, everyone should immediately run for their lives.
But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains… Luke 21:20-21a
Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. Matt. 24:15-18
This event is prophesied to be the worst day in Jewish history. In WWII there were some 6 million Jews murdered over five years. But this will have some 6 million Jews murdered in one day—two-thirds of the Jewish race!
For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. Matt. 24:21
It will come about in all the land, declares the LORD, that two parts in it will be cut off and perish; But the third will be left in it. Zech. 13:8
Those who didn’t take the Bible literally, who didn’t drop everything and run for their lives will either die or be captured and shipped out “into all the nations.”
for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people; and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; Luke 21:23-24
Therefore the surviving one-third of the Jewish race consists of those captured and taken captive to other nations, and also those who flee to Petra.(2)
The last 3 1/2 years’ timeframe is called the Great Tribulation. Let’s just say it’s horrible beyond words. By the time it’s over only a few will have survived.
Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. Is. 24:6
The Great Gathering…
Those who do make it to Petra will be protected by God. It’s likely that all of the 144,000 Jewish witnesses will flee to Petra as they also are protected by God.
Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God (144K) on their foreheads. Rev. 7:3
Those who were shipped to the far corners of the earth and are still alive, will too have been protected by God.
Jesus’ Second Coming
This time, instead of coming FOR His Saints, which He did at the Rapture, He’ll be coming WITH His Church Age Saints.
When He comes in the sky, He sends His angels to regather His elect.
Then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory. And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect [Grk = “chosen ones”] from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven. Mark 13:26-27
The four winds refers to all those Saints on the earth who became Believers in the Tribulation and managed to stay alive.
The farthest end of heaven refers to all those who became Believers in the Tribulation but died, plus the Old Testament Believers who will also be resurrected at this time.(1)
Sheep and Goats Judgment
All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. Matt. 25:32-33
It’s interesting that if you ARE in this judgment, you want to be on the RIGHT, not the LEFT. Just saying….
Since all the mountains are shaken down around the world at the very end of the Tribulation, we don’t know how long it will take Jesus to bring everyone to Jerusalem to be judged.
All we know is that it takes place in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, which today is called the Kidron Valley. It runs along the eastern side of the Old City of Jerusalem between the Temple Mount and the Garden of Gethsemane.
I will gather all the nations [Gentiles] and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land. Joel 3:2
So the great gathering will take place soon after Jesus returns to reign as King of the Earth.
Those who are saved in the Tribulation and survive until the Millennium will be gathered to the Kidron Valley/Valley of Jehoshaphat to be judged for their works in the Tribulation.
He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine [Jews and/or Gentiles], even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’
“Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matt. 25:33-46
What is interesting is that sounds like a works doctrine. For those of us saved by grace inside the Church Age, all our sins—past, present and future—were paid at the cross in 33 AD.
When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Col. 2:13-14
But the Tribulation is a different dispensation from the Church Age. Thank the Lord for the privilege of getting saved in the Church Age!!!!!
Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. Rev. 20:6
