Dear Compass Supporters:
Our hearty Biblelands Cruise 2025 tour group is busy touring Athens today (Thursday) and this afternoon we'll board the Celebrity cruise ship Infinity. (SEE PIC ABOVE)
From Athens we'll be criss-crossing the Aegean Sea visiting the Biblical ports of Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Ephesus, Crete and Corinth before flying to Israel for five days.
Here's a scenic pic of the breakfast view of Athens' Acropolis from our hotel's rooftop restaurant:
And this is a Bible study we did today on Mars Hill:
Thank you, Lord, for the things we don't deserve!
Last week my youngest daughter Taylor questioned me how Christians could be involved in Halloween. After listening to her cite verse after verse to make her case, I said "write all that down for an article" ...and she did. As you'll see, she took no prisoners.! Enjoy!

“I will bring them [Israelites] out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land." Ezek. 34:13
The world may call this a “fun” or “harmless tradition” and would even label me a stick-in-the-mud. But Scripture tells a very different story.
Halloween is not just about “cute costumes” or “a little candy.” At its core, it is a celebration of death, darkness, fear, and destruction—all things opposed to the holy character of God.
From my personal perspective:
Growing up, we didn’t participate in Halloween. My older sister and I weren’t allowed to go trick-or-treating. Instead, we occasionally attended a fall festival at our church when they hosted one.
I do remember feeling a little "left out" when neighborhood kids would show up at our door in costume, collecting candy.
My dad probably would’ve preferred not to hand out candy at all. But my mom—a true Southern hostess—wasn’t about to let the neighborhood kids think we were so opposed to the holiday that we wouldn’t even offer sweet treats. She didn’t want to come across as grumpy—like the old geezer up the street who actually was very grumpy.
Still, I honestly don’t remember feeling all that upset about not being more involved.
My dad often talked about how evil and wrong he believed Halloween was. And even though I sometimes felt a little bummed, I guess I understood it from a young age. So I never was really that upset that I “missed out” on Halloween growing up.
Fast forward about two decades—
My husband and I have our first child—a spunky, adorable little girl. But after spending the first few married Horrorweens together—dressing in funny costumes and hanging out with friends—we still didn’t have a set plan for how we’d handle Horrorween as a family.
Thankfully, because we were active in a healthy church community, we always had somewhere to go. “Trunk or Treat” events are a big thing at many local churches. Being part of a small group, we often hosted a trunk, decorating our car and handing out candy to all the kids.
I’ll admit—I can see the appeal of these types of events. They offer a great outreach opportunity for churches and provide a safer, “cleaner” alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.
Kids still get to dress up and collect candy, but they’re also surrounded by fun themes
instead of horror—and often hear the Gospel. We’ve had some great times participating over the years. And yes, it’s really fun seeing your kids in cute costumes—especially a baby dressed up as a bear!
But over the last eleven years of marriage, I’ve become increasingly aware of how much Halloween has taken over the fall season—almost as much as Christmas takes over starting November 1st.
It feels like people have become obsessed with the holiday in a way I don’t remember from my childhood. Decorations go up in early September, and the creepy, disturbing displays seem to grow every year.
Target and Home Depot are filled with larger-than-life skeletons, monsters, and horror props—some big enough to cover entire front yards.
And I keep asking myself: Why is everyone so eager to cover their homes in spider webs, corpses, and demonic imagery?
When I was a kid, the decorations were simple—maybe a green witch on a broom or a skeleton or two. But now, I have a neighbor who has an actual "cemetery" set up in her yard (we're pretty sure no bodies are actually buried, but still!).
Every year, I find myself more shocked—and frankly, disgusted—by what’s being pushed in our faces from every direction. While everyone has their own preferences—and some are drawn to spooky or eerie themes—we should ask ourselves: At what point do these interests shift from harmlessly creepy to disturbingly demonic?
I share all of this from two places in my heart.
First, a deep compassion for parents trying to raise children in today’s world. It’s not easy—especially when you’re going against the grain of cultural norms.
And second, a passion for truth. A passion to stand up and speak out about something I believe is genuinely harmful—yet increasingly accepted, even by Christians—because of its popularity, and perhaps, an apathy that’s taken hold.
What Does the Bible Say?
The Word of God is clear:
“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Eph. 5:11
Halloween, in every way, glorifies what is unholy. From witchcraft and sorcery to graveyards and spirits, it normalizes imagery and practices what Scripture repeatedly condemns.
In Deuteronomy 18:10–12, God warns His people not to imitate the nations by practicing divination, witchcraft, sorcery, or consulting the dead.
“For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord.” Deut. 18:12a
Yet Halloween is built on these very themes.
The Bible also tells us not to celebrate or glorify death.
“You are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead." Deut. 14:1
“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD;" Deut. 18:10-12
God is the God of life, light, and holiness—not death, darkness, and fear. If you're celebrating Horrorween, in the Old Testament you'd be detestable to God!
In the New Testament, Believers are cleansed, but who wants to add that one to their list of sins that Jesus had to die for?
Jesus said:
“I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Horrorween does the exact opposite: It glorifies darkness and fear, parading it through our neighborhoods for children to see.
The Danger of “It’s Just for Fun”
So many, if not most, Christians, argue that if their children simply dress up as something “innocent”—like a princess, a firefighter, or a superhero—then participation is harmless.
I’ve been guilty thinking this way in the past too. But we must ask: Is that truly the standard Scripture calls us to?
Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17
Are we called to see how close we can get to darkness without being burned, or are we called to be separate and holy, and RUN from sin?
Each year, what is considered “harmless” creeps further into sinful compromise. A little participation here, a small excuse there—and before long, the Church looks no different from the world.
We’ve seen this happen time and time again throughout the centuries in other areas. So it’s no surprise to me that we’re doing this again.
When Christians participate in unBiblical events, even in the “lighter” aspects, they send a message to their children, as well as the watching world, that compromise is acceptable—that the holiness of God can be mingled with darkness.
But Scripture tells us plainly:
“What fellowship has light with darkness?” 2 Cor. 6:14
1. Pagan Beginnings – The Festival of Samhain
Long before Horrorween as we know it existed, the ancient Celtic people celebrated a festival called Samhain (pronounced "sow-in"). It marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter—a season associated with death and darkness.
The Celts believed that on October 31, the veil between the living and the dead was at its thinnest, allowing evil spirits to roam freely.
People lit large bonfires to ward off evil and wore costumes—often made of animal skins—to protect themselves from the spirits.
Occult practices like divination, fortune-telling, and ancestor worship were common during this time.
This was not a children’s holiday. It was a deeply spiritual, often dark event, focused on death and the supernatural.
2. The Rise of Darker Elements
Over the centuries, as cultures evolved, many of the darker elements of Samhain were preserved or repackaged. The focus on spirits, ghosts, fear, and horror persisted.
During the Middle Ages, Horrorween became entangled with superstition, stories of demonic activity, and even Satanic ritual.
Even today, some occult practitioners and self-proclaimed witches still view Halloween (or Samhain) as a sacred night for spellcasting, rituals, and attempts to communicate with the dead.
That’s why many former witches and occultists—who are now Christians—warn Believers to not dismiss Horrorween as harmless fun.
3. The Christian Response – All Saints’ Day
As Christianity spread throughout Europe, early church leaders recognized the influence of pagan festivals like Samhain. Rather than ignore them, they sought to redeem the calendar by introducing Christian holidays around the same time.
In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as All Saints’ Day, a day to honor all Christian saints and martyrs—both known and unknown.
The night before Horrorween became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which later morphed into the word “Halloween,” which I refer to as Horrorween.
While Horrorween focused on death, fear, and spirits, All Saints’ Day was meant to celebrate life, faith, and victory over death. It reminded Believers that the power of Christ is greater than any darkness.
greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1John 4:4b
So what do we do with all this?
Today, Horrorween has become mostly secular activities for Christians still participating—candy, costumes, and creativity. But its origins and continued Satanic spiritual associations must be considered, especially for Christian families trying to raise children with discernment.
For some, this means abstaining altogether. For others, it means redeeming the day through light-focused alternatives like fall festivals or Trunk-or-Treat events.
Either way, the history of Horrorween, and the holy day that follows it, deserves scrutiny.
Jenny Weaver, a former witch who is now a Christian worship leader, has publicly warned:
“Halloween is a playground for the enemy. There’s a veil, and it’s very thin. And they know that, the demonic realm. They know that.”
She explains that even if people see Horrorween as harmless fun, it potentially opens dark spiritual doors for children.
“We open the door to this realm and the enemy loves that. Because then we don’t see anything wrong with things that are actually inviting darkness into our lives.”(1)
Herminia Galvez, who practiced witchcraft before converting to Christianity, also urges Christians to be cautious:
“There’s nothing cute about darkness. There’s nothing cute about dressing up as a witch, or a demon, or something dead. There’s nothing fun about it, and I think we’ve been so desensitized to it.”
She shares that Halloween used to be a day she celebrated, but after her Christian transformation, she saw how it blurred the lines between good and evil—especially for children.(2)
You can find dozens more stories like this from many and varied sources. I believe when someone has been involved in that world, and has by the grace of God come out of it, we should heed their warnings!
A Call to Believers
God is holy. He is light. He is righteousness, truth, purity, love, and life.
Horrorween, on the other hand, is rooted in everything opposite: fear, death, horror, witchcraft, and destruction. It doesn’t take a lot of spiritual discernment to see this contrast—it is plain as day.
Therefore, this is a call to Bible-believing Christians. We must stop excusing what God has clearly warned against. James 4:4 is sobering:
“Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” James 4:4
To embrace a holiday that glorifies darkness is to fellowship with the world instead of separating ourselves as God’s holy people.
We must stop involving our children in events that celebrate what God hates. And we must stop participating blindly in a holiday that is in every way a mockery of His holiness.
Let us instead fill our homes and neighborhoods with true light—the love of Christ, the Word of God, and the hope of eternal life. Let our children see us stand apart from compromise.
And let us remember that our call is not to blend in with the world, but to be salt and light in it. Quoting from Isaiah 52, Paul says to Church Age Believers:
“Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate, says the Lord. And do not touch what is unclean, and I will welcome you.” 2Cor. 6:17
Jesus said to the Jews under the Law:
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Matt. 5:13
Moving Forward:
I don’t have all the same convictions as you, and you don’t have all the same convictions as your neighbor. We have liberty to pray for wisdom over certain issues and this is one of them.
So I believe fathers need to take the lead and ask the Lord how He wants them to move forward during this atrocious holiday.
I personally feel convicted to do almost nothing regarding Horrorween outside of a church event. Because, as I shared earlier, this entire holiday is saturated in evil and I don’t want to raise my children around anything of that nature.
As my husband said— “I’d rather have fear from having knowledge of the Lord than from my neighbor’s lawn skeletons.” 🙂
The bottom line is we need to understand Horroween for what it is and pray about the BEST Christian response that honors God.
We need to be iron sharpening iron and praying over these decisions with our spouses, our children and with our church leaders.
And if you still feel comfortable dressing up your kids for a church festival, or hand out candy to your neighbors, pray about the type of decorations you are willing to put on your front lawn or inside your home, and what costumes you let your kids wear.
It does matter. What your kids see you contemplating and praying about will stick in their minds. So allow them to see the importance of a life boldly following the Living Light indwelling you!

Our Steeling the Mind Bible Conference, March 14 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is picking up steam. Tickets are selling steadily and we expect it to be another sellout.
This year we have another excellent slate of the top Bible teachers in the land coming to Coeur d'Alene to steel our minds with EXCELLENT information. Now is the time to armor us up to be used by the Lord in these eye-opening last days.
For speakers we have the modern-day Fab Four—simply the top four Bible teachers in America:
Andy Woods - Bible Prophecy
Russ Miller - Apologetics
Alex Newman - Signs of the Times
Dave Reagan - Israel
There are none better! But in addition we are privileged to announce the incredible Dr. Sherri Tenpenny will be our Keynote
Speaker.
Immediately after the Covid Va((ine began rolling out, Dr. Tenpenny, an osteopathic physician (DO), recognized Covid and the Covid Vx for what they truly were–part of a global scam being used for global population control.
She began exposing the medical corruption driving the dangerous and untested Covid va((ine in April 2021. She prophetically laid out how the shots would cause widespread death and disability.
As proof she was rattling Big pHARMa's front doors, they tried everything possible to shut her up, shut her down, and keep her quiet. They put her on the infamous "Disinformation Dozen" list—which was a list of 12 people who they claimed "Spread 73% of the Covid va((ine 'disinformation.'" They also got her medical license suspended (later it reinstated because they could not prove one thing she said that was false).
For all the lives she saved she should have been given the Medal of Freedom.* Her Steeling presentation will undoubtedly be off-the-charts!
*Since President Trump sadly just got another booster, it's highly doubtful Dr. Tenpenny will be receiving any accolades from President Trump. ☹️

Gold Going To $100K?If you're a Gold/Silver purchaser, thinking about purchasing it, or just interested in the subject, this is a great article! (I tried to link it but something was not working on Jeff's Substack, so I just pasted what he wrote re: gold/silver. Excellent! BP
Reposted Article From Jeff Childers' C&C:
I’m a lawyer, not a financial advisor, but let’s talk about gold! Newsweek recently ran a darkly apocalyptic story headlined, “As Gold Hits New Record, Some See Warning Signs of Civilizational Collapse.” Oh, no!
But … is it a mysterious and alarming sign of civilizational collapse? Or could it be something super terrific? Let’s play connect the dots.
For certain, the “buy gold” crowd is enjoying a moment. (For me, you can chalk this up with bitcoin. I always seem to show up late for the gravy train.) Ten years ago in December, 2015, gold sold for just $1,500 an ounce.
This week, for the first time in history, gold surged to over $4,100 an ounce, before settling back just over the $4,000 mark.
You’d think this amazing investment opportunity would be a good thing, but as the Newsweek headline suggested, people are freaking out.
“We’re witnessing what may be one of the great pivotal moments in financial history, yet it’s being barely discussed,” said French financial influencer Arnaud Bertrand.
He compared this week’s gold activity to other mild historical speed bumps like “The fall of Rome, Spain’s imperial decline, the French Revolution, and the end of Bretton Woods.”
Mike Duncan, host of The History of Rome and Revolutions podcasts, rhetorically asked Rolling Stone: “Is this thing pushing itself toward some sort of terminal failure? Yeah, it sure feels like it.”
Newsweek rounded up a parade of doom prophets who sounded more like Revelation than Bloomberg. It wasn’t just Newsweek, either, not even close. Two days ago, the UK Economic Times ran this eye-watering headline:

Economist and gold advocate Peter Schiff told the Times he thinks gold is nowhere near its peak, because the metal’s price “simply reflects the collapse of currencies.”
Schiff is a grim outlier. Mainstream pundits predict a less astronomical price of “only” around $6,000 an ounce— still an absurd climb from Biden-era levels.
Silver has also surged, speeding across an already historical price point of $40 this month without even glancing in the rearview mirror (it’s now about $50). Cue the smell of burned rubber.
📈 Conspiracy theorists see the surge in precious metal prices as a sign of deliberate hyperinflation, designed by the government to crash the dollar and usher in an age of Central Bank Digital Currency; you know, to “save the day.”
The main problem with this particular dark conspiracy is that prices of other goods — tacos, gasoline, Big Macs, used Hondas, shoelaces, wages, everything— are not also spiking like precious metals.
So, there’s no sign of hyperinflation yet. It is possible that precious metals are leading indicators, true. But it is also possible that, in this case, metallic inflation is following something rather than leading anything.
📈 Since around 1980, when gold had its first big run, gold seems to have stuck below an invisible ceiling around $2,700. Silver has been even more controlled, stubbornly sticking around $30 an ounce. During the Biden era, gold and silver wedged into a historically tight range; between $1,800 and $2,700 for gold, and between $25 and $32 for silver.

That precious metal price discipline during the Biden era was most surprising because Biden tripled the supply of dollars— and the price of everything else skyrocketed. Economists —then completely unworried— called metal prices “range-bound.” But that was totally unnatural.
In previous inflation cycles —like the 1970s and the early 2000s— precious metals moved first and fastest. But during Bidenflation, they seemed downright sedated.
Also during Biden, there was a poorly reported but profoundly disquieting phenomenon of foreign central banks buying bullion like there was no tomorrow.
According to the World Gold Council, 2022 and 2023 saw record-breaking official purchases — the fastest accumulation of gold reserves in modern history. China, Russia, India, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia grabbed gold, among others.
Jerusalem Post, November 2024:

They were all buying gold like it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Maybe it was. What if, for political cover against accusations about inflation —which Biden denied was happening at all— the US government manipulated the metals markets?
That would explain both why metal prices remained stable while the cost of everything else increased, and why other countries were buying so much of it: by keeping the prices artificially low, Biden was basically giving it away.
That’s not a tinfoil helmet conspiracy theory. There’s a long, well-documented tradition of governments intervening overtly and covertly in commodity and currency markets when it suited their fiscal or political needs.
Indeed, before Bretton Woods, the price of gold was artificially kept at $35 an ounce worldwide and everybody knew it.
During and after the 2008 financial crisis, Western central banks quietly lent and swapped bullion through ‘bullion banks’ to create a synthetic supply. Analysts complained this kept spot prices artificially low while balance sheets ballooned.
So what if —and this is what I think must have happened— Trump discovered Biden’s covert gold stabilization program and pulled the plug? Let see if anyone can connect any dots.
Remember when, early this year, Trump was noisily threatening to audit Fort Knox? And then the story magically disappeared, nevermore to be seen?
E.g., Business Insider, February 20th:

It wasn’t just a rhetorical question. Around the same time, an idea floated through the trade press —I covered it— that the US could massively increase its financial stability or create a sovereign wealth fund simply by re-pricing its own gold at current market rates.
Here is a Substack post from the Gold Observer, February 15th:

Gold Observer reminded us that on February 3, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order requiring a sovereign wealth fund be created within one year.
Standing right next to him when he signed the order was Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who told reporters, “We’re going to monetize the asset side of the U.S. balance sheet for the American people.”
What asset?
One asset that America owns is 8,100 tons of gold (262 million ounces) — officially valued at only $42.22 an ounce, a 1973 accounting relic.
Twice before, the US has repriced its gold to instantly create new wealth: once in 1972 when the official gold price was raised from $35 to $38, and again in 1973 from $38 to $42.22 an ounce.
📈 Let’s pull all this together. If Trump does intend to reprice US gold reserves to accurately reflect our true wealth, why would he do it at an artificially low Biden level?
Surely he would let the price of bullion off the leash, allowing it to rise to properly reflect all the inflation that Biden had already created?
And only then —once the true, inflation-adjusted price of gold was set— reprice our gold.
In other words, it would be stupid to reprice gold at an artificially low level when a much better market price is sitting right in front of you. Why give away value that’s already yours?
For years, while Washington denied inflation and quietly stabilized gold, foreign central banks were the ones cashing in— buying American bullion on the cheap, storing the real wealth offshore, and leaving U.S. taxpayers holding the empty bag.
Repricing gold at today’s market rate wouldn’t just acknowledge inflation; it would end another foreign subsidy.
America first.
Letting gold float freely, then marking it on the national balance sheet to that honest price, would flip the trade: the U.S. would capture the windfall instead of exporting it.
The flow of gold would reverse, foreign vaults would stop filling, and for once, the balance of monetary power might tilt back toward the people who originally mined, minted, and defended it in the first place.
If the price does float to $6,000 an ounce (or more), and if Trump intelligently prices America’s hoard to that more rational market price, one single corrective accounting entry could instantly flood a sovereign wealth fund with $1.56 trillion dollars.
That’s not stimulus, not borrowing, not money-printing — just marking reality to market.
Now imagine that happening early-to-mid next year, right before the midterm election season really gets underway. And then imagine that Trump says he needs a Republican supermajority in Congress to give all that value back to citizens in their new sovereign wealth fund?
Makes you think, doesn’t it?
