Compass Bible Study is a place for born-again Believers to gather to study the Bible, share spiritual gifts, bear burdens, pray together in order to actively engage in the Christian life.

Sick or out of town? Now you can watch our Bible study live from any smart phone, tablet or computer. To watch on Sunday, just click this Internet link:

https://www.dropcam.com/p/oXFyOu

Bookmark the link! It’s usually functional from about 9:45 AM to Noon on Sundays. This is not an expensive tool, but rather, an inexpensive use of a video monitor. So occasional blips may occur. But you should be able to see/hear 99% of our study, live, if you wish to click-in. Or email for how to attend live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

WHAT WE’RE ABOUT: Anyone who desires to grow deeper in the Word, mature in their faith, actively share their spiritual gifting and wish to have a place to build Christian friendships is welcome to attend our Bible studies. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.” 2Tim. 2:15

“But Jesus answered and said to them, ‘You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures, or the power of God.’” Matt. 22:29

We meet weekly on Sunday mornings to study God’s Word in order to armor up to be used by God in the lives of those in our sphere of influence—family, friends and place of employment. Each week we notify everyone via email where we’re meeting, who the teacher is and what we’re studying that week.

“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;” Eph 4:11-12

We rotate Bible teachers on Sundays in order to not burden any one person with the teaching load. Each Bible teacher takes a pre-determined number of Sundays to teach on a particular subject or book of the Bible. We primarily teach “verse-by-verse” through selected books of the Bible, but topical teaching is utilized from time to time.

“And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” 2Tim. 2:2

“For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.”Acts 20:27 We teach the Bible from a dispensational, pre-millennial, pre-tribulational doctrinal position. We don’t have all the answers to all the questions, but we know where to find them!

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2Tim. 3:16-17

“preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.” 2Tim. 4:2

We believe the Compass Bible Study leadership, as well as those attending the Bible studies, are the check-and-balance against teaching or receiving doctrinal error. We encourage everyone attending our studies to “examine the scriptures” we teach to make sure we’re teaching inside scriptural boundaries.

Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.” Acts 17:11

We are content to allow God to determine the size of our group. Small or large, it’s His call, not ours.

“. . . And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:47

We desire to have no monetary debt. Anyone who donates to the study group may view our overall income and specific expense payments.

“The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.” Prov. 22:7

We believe music was created by the Lord for His glory and should be uplifting and focused on the lyrics and not the person or people singing. Those whom God brings to our group who can sing, lead, etc., have the opportunity to share their gifts.

“Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.” Psa. 30:4

We believe that it is the parents’ responsibility to teach the Bible to their children, therefore we offer no Sunday School at this time. We believe that children are a gift from the Lord and encourage children to sit with their parents in our Bible studies.

“And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Eph. 6:4

We believe Bible study encourages Believers to share their faith, one-on-one, as the Lord allows opportunity. Our Sunday Bible studies are not designed for evangelizing non-believers, but rather, equipping people to evangelize.

“Praying . . . that God may open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ,” Col. 4:3

“But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2Tim. 4:5

As a group, we believe we should bear one another’s burdens. This earth is not heaven. During this earthly life we’ll have both smiles and frowns (Ecc 3:1-8). In the times when people have difficulties, we want our Body to lift each other up in prayer, give assurances of God’s love and encouragement for the future. (Gal. 6:2; 1John 3:17; 1 Pet 5:9). We believe we should pray for one another (Acts 2:42, 4:24)

“Pray without ceasing.” 1Thes 5:17

We believe we should exhort one another (Gal 6:1, 2Tim 4:2; 1Tim 4:13) We believe we should counsel/instruct one another using scripture alone. (1Tim 1:3, 5; 2:11; 6:17-18; 2Thes 3:14; Col 3:16; By application – Prov 12:15; 15:22).

We believe the Word of God is a most able resource and sufficient to handle any and all situations. So we pray for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading. We believe we are to be a repository for money/donations (Ro 12:13; 1Cor. 16:2). and any donations collected are spent as the leadership deems acceptable. We believe any giving should be done privately (Mt 6:3, 4), as the individual has prayed through with his heart, not under compulsion (2Cor 9:7), and to the degree he/she has prospered (1Cor 16:2). (Please note that Compass Bible Study is separate from Compass International, Inc., including using separate banks and accounts.) We believe we are to appoint qualified leadership from the Body to oversee and guide the studies. (1Tim 3:1-13, 5:17; Titus 1:5-9). When choosing leaders, the entire church is involved (Acts 1:23, 26; 6:3, 5; 15:22, 30; 2 Cor 8:19; Acts 20:17; Phil 1:1).

We believe we should care for those in need (1Tim 5:3-6; 1Cor 12:20-26; Ro 12:10, 15; James 2:15-16; 1John 3:17; 2Cor 6:4, 9:12) We take care of our elderly, our widows who need help and those whom God has allowed to suffer (1Pet 4:13; 1 Pet 5:9; James 5:10-11) or are being pruned (John 15:2).

Pray about joining us!

COMPASS BIBLE STUDY DOCTRINE

Inerrancy Of Scripture

We believe, teach and defend that the Holy Bible is the inerrant, supernaturally inspired Word of God.

2Tim. 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

2Pet. 1:21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

The Trinity

We believe, teach and defend that God exists in three persons in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Matt. 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, . . .”

John 14:9 “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

The Virgin Birth

We believe, teach and defend that Jesus Christ was born of a human virgin.

Is. 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”

Saved by Faith Alone, In Christ Alone

We believe, teach and defend that salvation comes to man only through faith in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross and bodily resurrection three days later.

Rom. 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes . . .”

Titus 3:5 “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,”

Mark 1:15 “…Repent and believe the gospel.”

The Bible Should Be Interpreted Literally

We believe, teach and defend that every word of the Bible is inspired by God and should be interpreted within a dispensational framework, in its proper context.

Eph. 3:9 and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things;

2Tim. 2:15 Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Rapture and the 2nd Coming of Christ

We believe, teach and defend that Jesus will return in the air for dead and alive Church Age Believers first (The Rapture) and return again to earth seven years later to reign as King of the earth for 1000 years from His throne in Jerusalem.

1Cor. 15:52 “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”

Rev. 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

Salvation Is Eternal

We believe, teach and defend that salvation is permanent, eternal and forever based on what Jesus did on the cross and His resurrection from the dead, not because of what we do, or don’t do, on this earth.

Heb 13:5 “… for He Himself has said, ‘I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,’”

Rom. 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

Eph. 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Creation

We believe, teach and defend that God created the earth out of nothing in six literal days, about 6000 years ago.

Gen. 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Ex. 20:11 “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day;”

Rom. 4:17b “God, who . . . calls into being that which does not exist.”

Mankind Born Sinful

We believe, teach and defend that man is born sinful and separated from God.

Rom. 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Jesus Resurrected

We believe, teach and defend that Jesus defeated death, was bodily resurrected and is alive today.

Luke 24:6 “He is not here, but He has risen.”

2Tim. 2:8 “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,”

Hell is Literal and Eternal

We believe, teach and defend that an eternal hell exists, has tormenting flames and is dark. It awaits all those who do not trust by faith that Jesus died on the cross for their personal sins and that He was resurrected, defeating death.

Matt. 25:30 “And cast out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Rev. 20:15 “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

The Jews Are God’s Chosen People

We believe, teach and defend that the Jews (Israel) were chosen by God as a special people.

Deut. 7:6 “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”

Rom. 2:10 “but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
