False prophets are men deceived by Satan.
The prophet Jeremiah had to deal with many false prophets in his day. In the above verse, the Bible gives us insight into the source of the false information given by these false prophets.
It was from Satan, and the sin nature of man contributed to the deception. These false prophecies came from a “vision” that was not from God. These false prophets were so deceived that they claimed that Satan’s lies were from God. They received information but didn’t realize the information was from the dark side.
Without the leading of God’s Holy Spirit, these men were unable to discern real Truth (Deuteronomy 13:1-4). But the true test of a prophet is whether what was prophesied came to pass.
When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken . . . —Deuteronomy 18:22
Even today we see “Christian men” giving prophecies they claim are from God – only they don’t come true. That means they are false prophets. That’s why we are warned to check everything we read or hear against God’s written word.
Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. —Acts 17:11
Otherwise, we may be following “destructive heresies.”
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies . . . —2 Peter 2:1

Are divorced men and women to abstain from sex before remarriage? I have a friend who wrote this to me after reading a GML on the subject:
“I struggle with the topic of sex outside of marriage. As I read 1 Thessalonians 4:3-6, I can’t help believe that God is not talking about sex before marriage with someone to which you are committed. I don’t believe that is sexual immorality at all.”
God says this about fornication (fornication is any sex outside of marriage):
write to them that they abstain from . . . fornication —Acts 15:20
that you abstain from . . . fornication; if you keep yourselves free from [fornication], you will do well . . . —Acts 15:29
But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from . . . fornication. —Acts 21:25
Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators (unmarried) and adulterers (married) God will judge. —Hebrews 13:4
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. —1 Corinthians 6:9-11
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. —Matthew 15:19
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries . . . —Mark 7:21
So your friend is just deceived. If God allows a window of opportunity, encourage her to repent and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal His truth.
