Verse of the Day — Luke 21:24

Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

God’s plans stand.

When Jesus comes back to earth for His second coming, His thousand-year reign as King of earth will begin.

Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. —Revelation 20:4

Until that happens, the period labeled by Jesus as the “times of the Gentiles” will continue. The context doesn’t mean Jews can’t control Jerusalem, but rather that it would be continually subject to Gentile invasion and interference, much like today. You can read more about this Gentile domination in Daniel 2 and 7.

The Roman Emperor Julian the Apostate, who lived from 331 to 363 AD, read this prophecy in the Bible and thought he saw a chance to forever discredit Christianity. All he had to do was get the Jews to rebuild Jerusalem and their temple. So he put up the money and encouraged the Jews to return to Jerusalem and start rebuilding their temple. He provided them with silver shovels, and they began by lavishly carrying dirt in beautiful purple veils. But they quickly had to abandon the project as they were interrupted by an earthquake and balls of fire coming up from the ground (Edward Gibbon, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, II:95-101).

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; —Galatians 6:7

Comments worth sharing . . .

Regarding tattoos, one subscriber wrote:

“The Old Testament had harsh penalties for displeasing God. Grace takes away the penalties but not the displeasure brought to God. If adultery was displeasing then, it is now. If marking or cutting your body in worship of another god was then, it is now.”

Several subscribers wrote in response to the Q & A regarding why God doesn’t just send everyone to heaven:

“God does not send anyone to hell . . . we send ourselves.”

“MAN, I can’t believe you passed up an opportunity to present the gospel!!! This question was just begging for the gospel message to be spelled out to the asker who it appears has a misunderstanding that even though God is a God of love that God’s #1 attribute is His HOLINESS. That salvation is available to ALL who believe that Jesus Christ was the once-and-for-all sacrifice for every sin and that it is a gift that must be accepted by each individual. It is the refusal of that gift that condemns people to an eternity apart from the giver of the gift.”

Another wrote:

“I think it’s also important to point out that God gave us a choice. He didn’t make us robots designed to unconditionally follow God and choose Him. If He did, that choice and our love would be superficial. What kind of love is it if we are forced to do it? Because He gave us this choice, we as imperfect human beings choose sin. This wasn’t God’s original plan. In fact, He gave us a perfect sinless world and we screwed it up (you know, the fall of man).”

We had many great testimonies; here is just one:

I began smoking at 17 years old and continued for over 25 years. I wanted to quit so badly, but couldn’t go an hour without a cigarette. I kept praying, over and over again, asking God to give me the strength to quit. One day, while driving to work, I said, out loud, “OK, that’s it, God. I can’t do this. You’ll just have to do it for me.” That was on a Friday.

On Sunday, I began to feel ill. To make a long story short, I was sick, and off work, for 3 weeks. When I was finally able to drive myself to the doctor, he told me I had a virus, but he didn’t know of anyone else who had it, and he wasn’t sure what virus it was!! If my Mom had not been visiting me, I would probably have starved to death.

Once the fever broke (at 2 weeks) I realized my body hadn’t had nicotine for so long that it would be easy to quit for good. And that is exactly what happened. God answered my prayer and knew what it would take for me to give up smoking. He even made sure my Mom was there to take care of me! It’s now been 25 years, and I never stop thanking Him.
