Verse of the Day — Revelation 13:16

He causes all . . . to be given a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead.

If you’re left behind, refuse the mark!

It occurred to us that there may be someone reading GML who is not a Christian. Maybe they have a false faith or never really truly trusted Christ. Whatever the reason, every believing Christian will disappear from the face of the earth.

in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. —1 Corinthians 15:51-52

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. —1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

Then those left behind will be faced with a life or death question: Whether or not to take the “mark” of Satan.

And he provides that no one should be able to buy or sell, except the one who has the mark. —Revelation 13:17

Since no one will be able to buy or sell without the “mark,” you are signing a death warrant if you refuse it. But there is eternal life after our earthly death. Only those who refuse the mark during this period will go to heaven.

If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or upon his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God . . . and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone . . . they have no rest day or night . . . whoever receives the mark. —Revelation 14:9-11

. . . I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the Word of God, and those who had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ . . . —Revelation 20:4

So, if you are unfortunate enough to miss the rapture, your dilemma is: Live now and die, or die now and live.

. . . to live is Christ, and to die is gain. —Philippians 1:21

Dear Compass,

I am dating a man who lives in another state, but he occasionally comes over to see me. For the past few months, when he comes over he would stay in my house and I would stay with a friend, but we would spend the days together. My friends told me that what I was doing wasn’t sensible. They said when my boyfriend comes over there is nothing wrong with him staying in my house. Please advise.

You are doing the right thing by not staying together in the same house, unsupervised or alone, overnight. Your friends are giving you “worldly” common-sense advice

For the waywardness of the naive will kill them,
And the complacency of fools will destroy them.
—Proverbs 1:32

but not “biblical” common-sense advice. The world may think that staying together in the same house alone before you are married is ok, but Christians have a much higher calling. Even if you are spiritually strong enough to not engage in forbidden activity, the Bible says your reputation with your neighbors has to be considered.

. . . have a good reputation with those outside the church . . . —1 Timothy 3:7

A good name is to be more desired than great riches . . . —Proverbs 22:1

. . . giving no cause for offense in anything, in order that the ministry not be discredited. —2 Corinthians 6:3

Also, don’t underestimate the potential for problems. You are not beyond falling into an evil trap. Paul said he had problems every day.

For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. —Romans 7:19

If Paul can have problems with the flesh, so can you. So don’t take the chance of losing even one inch of ground to the sin nature.

Answers to questions in GML are intended to be supplementary and in the spirit of Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, and 26:26, which calls for believers to seek counsel from more than one person. Therefore, it is not recommended that any decision be based solely on GML’s answer, but rather it be considered one of several counselors when determining a course of action.
