God wants harmony in the home.
In the Old Testament, a rebellious son was so despised that he could be stoned to death.
If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. They shall say to the elders of his city, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear. —Deuteronomy 21:18-21
It also confirms that it is impossible to deal with a nagging wife.
He who would restrain her restrains the wind,
And grasps oil with his right hand. —Proverbs 27:16
Today is no different as a foolish son is embarrassing and constant nagging by a wife is irritating. Combine the two and you will have a miserable life.
But God calls us to harmony in the home. He wants our homes to be:
- Rooted in wisdom.
Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars —Proverbs 9:1
By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established —Proverbs 24:3
- Be trouble free.
He who troubles his own house will inherit wind,
And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted. —Proverbs 11:29
- Be noncontentious.
The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. —Proverbs 14:1
- Be righteous.
The house of the wicked will be destroyed,
But the tent of the upright will flourish. —Proverbs 14:11
- Be of an humble atmosphere.
The LORD will tear down the house of the proud,
But He will establish the boundary of the widow. —Proverbs 15:25
- Be honest.
He who profits illicitly troubles his own house,
But he who hates bribes will live. —Proverbs 15:27
- Be successful.
Great wealth is in the house of the righteous,
But trouble is in the income of the wicked. —Proverbs 15:6
- Be a place of Bible teaching.
You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. —Deuteronomy 6:7
- Be a place of peace.
Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it
Than a house full of feasting with strife. —Proverbs 17:1
Regarding the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple: Will it be necessary to locate red heifers before Israel can begin sacrifices again? Can the sacrifices begin before the Temple is built?
Yes, locating an “unblemished red heifer” is necessary for a proper sacrifice that is acceptable to God.
This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel that they bring you an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect and on which a yoke has never been placed. —Numbers 19:2
The red heifer is a young cow, three years old, has never been yoked and does not have one single non-red hair. The red color presumably symbolized blood atonement.
The qualified cow would be sacrificed by the High Priest on the Mount of Olives across from the Eastern Gate and the cow’s ashes mixed with free-flowing water from the Gihon Springs in a stone pot.
A supply of water and red heifer ashes could last decades, and once it ran out, God would miraculously provide another red heifer. Since the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD, there has been no need for the red cows because sacrifices could only be made on Mount Moriah.
There are over a hundred other Temple items that also must be located or constructed to biblical specifications. There is a group of Jews using the name of “The Temple Institute,” located in the Old City of Jerusalem, who are working to collect and catalog these items to be used whenever the Temple is rebuilt. They are called “right wing radicals” by the Jews so that gives them some credibility with Christians :-). True sacrifices can only be in accordance with Old Testament law. Therefore, only sacrifices in the Jewish Temple conform.
. . . let the temple, the place where sacrifices are offered, be rebuilt and let its foundations be retained . . . —Ezra 6:3
See also Acts 21:26.
Orthodox Jews believe a red heifer will be provided by God at the time the Temple is able to be rebuilt. Jews also know the Bible says only a blood sacrifice can atone for sin, and therefore, without the ability to have blood sacrifices on Mount Moriah, finding the ashes of a qualified red heifer is a moot point.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.” —Leviticus 17:11
Christians, on the other hand, know Bible prophecy says sacrifices will resume on the Mount Moriah PRIOR to the Second Coming of Christ.
And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate. —Daniel 9:27
How that will eventually play out is a mystery of biblical proportions!
