Verse of the Day — Hosea 2:23

. . . I will say to those who were not my people, “You are My people” . . .

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

If you are a believer, you are in the “are My people” group above.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

Paul quoted the above passage, as did Peter, explaining that Gentiles would be converted during the Church Age.

As He says also in Hosea,
“I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’ and her who was not beloved, ‘Beloved.’ And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ there they shall be called sons of the living God.”
—Romans 9:25-26

for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. —1 Peter 2:10

God mercifully brought us previously nonbelieving people into a personal relationship with Him. Israel rejected their prophesied Messiah, but Gentiles received Him. However, this did not mean that God equated the Gentiles with Israel or that the Gentiles replaced Israel. Even though Paul applied Hosea 2:23 to the Gentiles, he also taught clearly that the Nation of Israel would have conversions as well (Romans 11).

But the amazing part of this study is the simple fact that God, in His infinite wisdom, declared to His chosen people Israel (“But now listen, O Jacob, My servant, And Israel, whom I have chosen” —Isaiah 44:1) that the day would come when they would reject God’s best. God, in turn, would pour out His Spirit to another people—which allowed us New Testament believers a ticket to heaven. PTL!

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Dear Compass,

What do I tell someone who has repeatedly heard the gospel yet still doesn’t believe in God? He says he wishes he could believe. We just don’t know what else to tell him that would get his attention.

ANSWER:

The problem is that YOU can’t get his attention—GOD has to do it. Everyone’s salvation is dependent on God and God’s timing. Having said that, it is possible that your witnessing is ineffective because you are trying to talk him into heaven when what he really needs is to understand the consequences of hell.

On the surface, if you witness to someone about how wonderful it is to go to heaven and/or make their life on earth better, they have a tendency to compare what they have now to what they perceive they will receive.

But anyone who understands the truth of their ultimate destiny without Christ—-

  • extreme heat

And he [the rich man] cried out and said, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.” —Luke 16:24
  • darkness

but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. —Matthew 8:12

Then the king said to the servants, “Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” —Matthew 22:13

Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. —Matthew 25:30

  • agony

but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  • and despair and torment FOREVER(!)

for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment. —Luke 16:28
A person has to be a moron to choose hell if they understand the choice!
