And the one who curses you I will curse . . .
America has been blessed by her support of Israel.
Long-standing support of Israel has brought blessing to America. When someone offers a blessing, they wish well or offer a prayer on behalf of themselves or someone else (Genesis 49, Deuteronomy 33). In the Old Testament:
- God offered blessings to those who follow Him faithfully.
the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today —Deuteronomy 11:27
- He provided His followers with salvation.
Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah. —Psalm 3:8
- He provided them with life.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the LORD commanded the blessing—life forever. —Psalm 133:3
See also Deuteronomy 4:40, Proverbs 4:4, 7:2.
- He provided them with success.
Now therefore, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord GOD, have spoken; and with Your blessing may the house of Your servant be blessed forever. —2 Samuel 7:29

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. —Revelation 1:3
And there “is” that time-spanning admonition to bless Israel:
And I will bless those who bless (Israel),
And the one who curses you I will curse. —Genesis 12:3
Since Israel’s amazing re-birth as a nation in 1948 until 2008, America steadfastly supported Israel with money and weapons. No doubt God blessed our nation, possibly even raising up America, in His timing, for that very purpose. But in 2009, a new political administration began in the U.S. that gave a cold shoulder to Israel and made decisions that appeared to support her enemies. This was a first for America.
But in 2016, by the grace of God, a new administration has reversed the past administration’s anti-Israel policies. Not only have they staunchly supported Israel but they also finally moved our U.S. Embassy to its rightful location in Jerusalem. This is the most significant support the United States has given Israel since the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli wars. PTL!
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.” —Psalm 122:6

In my church, one of the Elders called for a voluntary fast. Is this something that God wants or requires?
Prayer and fasting are mentioned positively for promoting faith and good works prior to the cross, under the law.
But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. —Matthew 17:21
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.” —Mark 9:29
However, Jesus insisted that fasting was NOT necessary for His disciples as long as He was with them.
Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. —Matthew 9:14-15
See also Mark 2:18-20 and Luke 5:33-35.
Therefore, an argument could be made that between Jesus’ death and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the disciples would/should fast. But once the Holy Spirit came, fasting would again be unnecessary as, in fact, Jesus again was with them, alive in their hearts.
|In the early church, following the Jewish tradition, Paul and Barnabas fasted (Acts 14:23) as did Cornelius (Acts 10:30). In the KJV of the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 7:5, Paul suggests that husbands and wives might abstain from sexual intercourse for a short time to be able to concentrate on fasting and prayer. But a better translation of that verse is in the NASB and the word “fasting” is not used.|| “When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. —Acts 14:23 |
Cornelius said, “Four days ago to this hour, I was praying in my house during the ninth hour; and behold, a man stood before me in shining garments —Acts 10:30 Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. —1 Corinthians 7:5
Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. —1 Corinthians 7:5
There are some medical journals that promote fasting as helpful to your overall health.
But scripture doesn’t command believers in the Church Age to fast. The idea that you can do something to add to what Jesus did on the cross to make yourself more pleasing, more sanctified, more acceptable to God, to make God more likely to hear or answer your prayer, is nonsense.
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? —Galatians 3:3
