Verse of the Day — Romans 12:17

Never pay back evil for evil to anyone.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Pray for those who do you wrong.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

God wants us to be good witnesses, even when we’ve been obviously wronged. He says walk away from the fray and let Him handle the situation. And He WILL handle the situation!

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. —Romans 12:19

Rather than returning blow for blow, God wants us to be examples of Godliness.

“IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK” . . . Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. —Romans 12:20-21

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. —Romans 12:14

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Questions/comments regarding “One Spirit”:

“Based on your answer today I assume the authors of GML are evangelicals and not charismatic. Is that true?”

Answer: We’re not much on labels. We simply search scripture and look for applications using the Bible as a compass 🙂 So, we’re neither Republican nor Democrat, but Independent.

———-

“I have always enjoyed GML but when I read today’s Q & A about the “baptism of the Holy Spirit,” I realized that I could no longer trust your answers. I believe in the “Full Gospel,” all of it, even the gifts of the Spirit. So I feel I must unsubscribe.”

Answer: Hmm, that’s interesting because we didn’t mention gifts in our answer. We don’t give opinions and try hard to base our answers solely on God’s Word (“Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.” —James 3:1). So why don’t you want to “trust” God’s Word?

———-

“We receive the Holy Spirit when we trust Jesus’ death on the cross, but we are empowered by the Holy Spirit when we have our Pentecost experience.”

Answer: Where’s THAT verse?

———-

“You will get lots of emails from those of us who believe that the Holy Spirit’s gifts are received often by the laying on of hands.”

ANSWER:

You can believe what you want but the “gifts of the Spirit” are given by God, not by man (caps below added for emphasis):

God also testifying with them . . . by (giving) gifts of the Holy Spirit ACCORDING TO HIS OWN WILL. —Hebrews 2:4

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually JUST AS HE WILLS. —1 Corinthians 12:11
     See also 1 Corinthians 12:18, 30.

Spiritual gifts are given at conversion for service to the body of Christ:

. . . each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another . . . —1 Peter 4:10

Answers to questions in GML are intended to be supplementary and in the spirit of Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, and 26:26, which calls for believers to seek counsel from more than one person. Therefore, it is not recommended that any decision be based solely on GML’s answer, but rather it be considered one of several counselors when determining a course of action.
