Verse of the Day — Isaiah 42:9

. . . I declare new things;
Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you.

The Bible has history written in advance.

There are two things that separate the Bible from all other books on the planet. It claims to be written by God Himself, and it predicts events in the future to prove that it was written by God. No other book in the world claims to be written by God, and only the Bible has a 100% record of accuracy in fulfilled predictions.

God obviously felt Bible prophecy is important as roughly 25 percent of God’s Word is prophecy-related. And one of the main reasons is for our comfort and hope (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18) as predicting the future shows God is in complete control (Jeremiah 29:11).

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. —1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” —Jeremiah 29:11

And what’s the next big event prophesied? The events surrounding the Rapture (Church removed from earth) and the Second Coming of Christ. How great Thou art!

Dear Compass,

My husband was raised Catholic. He attends a Bible-believing church with me, but he also cannot let go of all his Catholic rituals, so he also attends a Catholic church by himself. I believe he is a Christian, but his belief that only Catholics are right is causing a division in our marriage. I am praying that God will show us His truth as we read and study the Scriptures, but I don’t know what else to do. We also strongly disagree on our belief on Communion. He will only take Communion at the Catholic church now after reading one of their publications on the Eucharist, which describes why they believe in the real presence of Jesus in the bread and wine. To me it is more important to be saved and take Communion as a remembrance of what Jesus did on the cross for us. Is there anything I can do besides pray?

It would be difficult, as a Believer, to adhere to some of the teachings, traditions, and rituals of the Catholic Church and at the same time mature in your faith. Many Catholics tend to believe, erroneously, that their relationship with God begins and ends with “works”——what they do or don’t do.

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy . . . —Titus 3:5

Most Catholics have been taught that salvation can only be attained by faith plus baptism, sacramental grace, good works, penance, and obeying the law. So he probably thinks this is true. But for your husband to be saved, he must trust only in the gospel, the Good News of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus for his salvation. This means trusting the only One who can save—Jesus and His shed blood/substitutionary death for us on the cross. Nothing else.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. —Ephesians 2:8-9

Always remember, the work of redemption is finished and the sacrifice of Christ is sufficient.

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. —John 19:30

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. —Hebrews 7:25

Pray for and look for opportunities to study the Bible with him, or read with him, the Scriptures that show he needs to take the Bible seriously. Your goal is for you to be used by God for him to see the need to armor up with God’s unchanging truth. Boldly ask him Spiritual questions and pray that the Lord will convict him to be a good Spiritual leader. His lifetime goal should eventually be to nourish deep Spiritual roots in order to make solid Christ-centered decisions, moment by moment.

But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. —Hebrews 5:14

And don’t take praying for your husband too lightly. God DOES hear you and promises:

If you ask Me anything in My name [His will], I will do it. —John 14:14
