Verse of the Day — 3 John 2

. . . pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health . .  .

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

It’s ok to pray for good health.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

You would think this would be a no-brainer, but there are many people who seem to think sickness is allowed by God because of some sin in their life. Hardly. If so, we would all be sick—all of the time.

as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one —Romans 3:10

As an example, Paul prayed three times to be healed and yet God did not heal him while he was on this earth.

Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. —2 Corinthians 12:8

Many times God uses sickness to help Christians grow. We are to learn to rejoice in everything—including sickness.

in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. —1 Thessalonians 5:18

Fortunately, all sickness is eventually healed, but not all sickness is healed in this life.

and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. —Revelation 21:4

We are encouraged to take difficult sickness to the elders of our local church.

Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord —James 5:14

And we are commanded to

pray for one another, so that you may be healed —James 5:16.

So, remember to pray daily for good health!

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

The question of the day follows this awesome letter from one of our readers who pinned our ears back! We stand corrected and concur with the conclusions drawn. Enjoy!

ANSWER:

Dear Compass: Regarding the question on birth control pills . . . GML commented that this is a “scripturally unaddressed area,” but I challenge you that it is indeed spoken about in the Word of God.

In Genesis 1:27-28 we are told to be fruitful and multiply. There was no indication we should stop being fruitful! Children are a blessing from the Lord and it appears the more, the better. Read Psalm 127:3-5 where it states, how blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them (children).

Nowhere in Scripture are we told to limit our family size. God opens and closes the womb. We are not granted that privilege!  Look at the many women in Scripture who could not conceive, then in God’s timing did so; i.e., Abraham & Sarah (Genesis 21), Rebekah (Genesis 25:21), and Rachel and Leah (Genesis 29-30).

Chemically, the birth control pill, patch, and injections such as Depo-Provera are abortifacients. In other words, the chemicals can cause early-term abortions. This is a known medical fact. If you will read the package inserts, it clearly states that sometimes ovulation is suppressed, but the pill and the others which have virtually the same ingredients work to make the uterine wall unreceptive to a fertilized ovum (remember, life begins at conception!), thus preventing implantation of the developing baby and makes the mucus thicker so the sperm have trouble traveling up to the fallopian tubes to fertilize an ovum. IUD’s function to make a hostile environment in the uterine lining, thus preventing implantation as well. Even when women are on the pill or IUD, they will often have a heavy period, which probably is an early-term abortion.

Recall Psalm 139:15-16 where it describes us as being

fearfully and wonderfully made . . . My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret . . .

Is it right for man to interfere with this beautiful process of creation?

So many times couples want to limit their family size so that they can buy that larger home, new car, boat, etc. I wonder how God feels about this? Man is interrupting His gift of life to them. Where is people’s faith in knowing the Lord will provide? This is not a popular subject and one most couples do not want to discuss. In fact, most pastors during premarital counseling encourage birth control. Will they not be held accountable for doing so?

In the book Without Moral Limits, Debra Evans writes on pg. 144-145: “This current generation of American women is the first in history to collectively view the control of reproduction as a civic duty and personal right. In this end, millions have ingested mind-altering hormone drugs, used potent chemicals to create a ‘hostile vaginal environment’ against live sperm, had their Fallopian tubes surgically mutilated, had foreign objects implanted inside their wombs, and—if all else failed or was accidentally forgotten—submitted to the gross invasion of suction abortions. . . . Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was correct in predicting the eventual control of childbearing in a highly technological society. What Sanger didn’t make clear, however, was that it would be women who would sacrifice their sexual integrity for standardized conception. Many have paid the price with their hearts as well as their minds and bodies.”

Another interesting aspect to birth control pills is that there is a definite correlation to breast cancer. Research is showing more and more the connection as breast cancer cases continue to rise, even in younger women. Perhaps this is the consequence of trying to control one’s childbearing.

I recognize these are not easy issues in our culture today, but these things are certainly something to think about. Even if this woman should conceive a child, the Lord will provide a way for her. In fact, I suspect He will bless her in many ways!

I speak from experience, because I am the mother of five. Surgery for fibroid tumors resulted in me no longer being able to bear a child. Interestingly enough, I initially had four very close together, then for 11 years did not conceive. Suddenly, I realized I carried another child after all those years. God indeed does open and close the womb—in His timing!

QUESTION

Dear Compass,

I recently had a conversation with a man who is homosexual. He claimed there was scientific evidence proving he was “born” homosexual. And since he was born homosexual, and God doesn’t make junk, he felt he was going to heaven. Do you know of any scientific information that says they are born that way? And if they are born that way, they can’t help themselves so why would God punish them?

***************************************

ANSWER

Our liberal press usually puts all the “proof of a homosexual gene” stories on the front page of the paper and the retraction, or correction, somewhere near the rear. No evidence exists of a homosexual link or gene—regardless of what you may have read.

But his condition is really no different than yours or ours. His problem, as well as everyone else’s on the planet, is believing God’s Word and His definition of sin.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God —Romans 3:23

And we must turn from, or repent of, all sin. If you have a propensity to steal, then you must repent of your sin and turn to Jesus who paid the price for that sin. If you have a propensity to have sex outside of your marriage, then you must repent from this sin and turn to Jesus. Same for any sin . . . including homosexuality. The Bible lists all sin, and homosexuality is certainly listed as sin from which one needs repentance:

You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. —Leviticus 18:22

. . . a detestable act . . . —Leviticus 20:13

Do not be deceived; . . . homosexuals . . . shall not inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you; but you were washed . . . in the name of Jesus. —1 Corinthians 6:9-11

. . . men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. —Romans 1:26-27

Remember, the Bible is our unchanging standard by which we measure right and wrong. And in God’s eyes, his sin is no different than your sin or any other sin. And sin can only be forgiven through trusting the shed blood of Jesus Christ as full payment for your sin.
