We have a lot to look forward to!
For many Christians, Judgment Day is something they don’t look forward to. But for those who “walk their talk,” it’s reward time. In Matthew 5:1-12, referred to as the “Sermon on the Mount,” Jesus gives the characteristics of some of those who will be glad on Judgment Day:
- Verse 3 – “poor in spirit” (dependent on God, not themselves)
- Verse 4 – “who mourn”
- Verse 5 – “the gentle” (humble or meek)
- Verse 6 – “who hunger and thirst for righteousness”
- Verse 7 – “merciful”
- Verse 8 – “pure in heart”
- Verse 9 – “peacemakers”
- Verse 10 – “persecuted for the sake of righteousness”
Recently at a Christian bookstore I noticed that a “chronological Bible” didn’t have Satan’s fall listed prior to Adam and Eve’s sin. On one of your Bible studies on DVD, I recall it showing that Satan fell prior to Adam. Why would they leave that important fact out of a “chronological Bible”?
We don’t know their reasoning for choosing Bible subjects to sequence, but Satan, sin, etc., obviously happened prior to Adam’s sin, assuming you take the Bible literally. Unfortunately, there are many “scholars” who debate Genesis One from a “what does it really mean” view instead of a “God said it, I believe it” view. We believe the facts are as follows:
- Angels were created before the Earth’s creation as the Bible says the angels “shouted for joy” when God “laid the foundation of the earth.”
Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding,
Who set its measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?
On what were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?” —Job 38:4-7
- Satan was blameless in Eden until unrighteousness was found in him.
You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The ruby, the topaz and the diamond;
The beryl, the onyx and the jasper;
The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald;
And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets,
Was in you.
On the day that you were created
They were prepared.
You were the anointed cherub who covers,
And I placed you there
You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.
You were blameless in your ways
From the day you were created
Until unrighteousness was found in you. —Ezekiel 28:13-15
- Then, Satan caused Adam and Eve to sin (Genesis 3).
