Verse of the Day — John 3:30

He must increase, but I must decrease.

God should grow to be predominant in your life.

The battle of our two natures will continue until we die or are raptured. We were born with our sin nature.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
—Psalm 51:5

But we added a new divine nature when we were born again.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead —1 Peter 1:3

If we are Christ-centered in our decision making, God’s influence will grow in our lives. If we are self-centered, our flesh, or sin nature, will grow to dominate.

Therefore, our life’s goal would be “taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” —2 Corinthians 10:5

Dear Compass,

Your GMLs on Mormons were eye-opening. Now I have a question. We have a friend who is a Mormon and last week we went to an art show with her. She suggested we pray before we leave to have a safe trip and she led the prayer, out loud. If she was not praying to Jehovah God, was Jehovah God hearing her prayers? Who was she praying to?

God knows everything so He certainly knows what she said. But since she has no relationship with God through Jesus, He views her prayers differently:

When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you.
Yes, even though you multiply prayers,
I will not listen . . .
Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean.
 Isaiah 1:15-16a

You can only be clean through proper sacrifice in the Old Testament and through trusting Jesus’ sacrifice in the Church Age.

As far as who she was praying to, while she thought it was God, we’re not exactly sure who it was.

No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. —2 Corinthians 11:14

But we are pretty sure it wasn’t God since she has no relationship with Him.
