Verse of the Day — Psalm 33:13-14

The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men;
From His dwelling place He looks out
On all the inhabitants of the earth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

God can see everyone at once!

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

Imagine keeping up with all 6 billion people on the earth at one time.

  • Knowing their every action,

    “I, the LORD, have spoken; it is coming and I will act. I will not relent, and I will not pity and I will not be sorry; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,” declares the Lord GOD.” —Ezekiel 24:14
  • thought,

    Behold, I know your thoughts,
    And the plans by which you would wrong me.
    —Job 21:27
  • and even keeping up with how many hairs are on each head

    But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. —Matthew 10:30
—24 hours a day! If that doesn’t expand the size of your Creator, what will?

Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. —Psalm 33:8b

Dominion and awe belong to Him. —Job 25:2a

. . . let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe. —Hebrews 12:28

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

To hopefully end the birth control debate . . . 🙂

Dear Compass,

Regarding birth control, there IS a mention of it in Genesis 38:8-10.

“Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.’ And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so it came about that when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground, in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord; so He took his life also.”

ANSWER:

The number of Bereans (“. . . examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so —Acts 17:11) on GML’s subscriber list is amazing. Yes, we missed this one. But don’t draw the conclusion “God’s gonna get you” if you practice birth control. That was under the Old Testament law. We are living in the Church Age, and things are different!

Our initial GML answer on birth control was: “There is a great deal of liberty in our Christian walk (‘But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.‘ —1 Corinthians 8:9) and birth control is not addressed in the Bible. Therefore it would be wrong for someone to tell another person that it is sinful to use birth control.

You could, however, decide to deal with someone using birth control as dealing with a weaker brother, lacking in faith.” We believe millions have missed the eternal blessings of having many children because Satan has very carefully woven lies into Christian mindsets. Eternity is where our heart should be, not the here and now.

Always remember, God “looks at the heart” —1 Samuel 16:7.

Such factors as education, goals, financial stability, lifestyle, Christian maturity should be considered before encouraging pregnancy early in marriage. Your knee-jerk fundamentalism has turned me off one too many times. I have, today, unsubscribed to GML.

Editor’s Comment: We don’t find any scripture to support those “factors” needing to be in line before God will bless someone with children. Quite the contrary, we find:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
—Proverbs 3:5

Thank you for this lesson today on birth control. I wish we had trusted God in the beginning of our marriage for all His blessings, rewards and gifts.

Editor’s comment: Please know that any Believer’s sins of the past, whether it be lack of faith, birth control, or whatever, will not be punished in the future. They have been washed by the blood of the cross. But hopefully you’ll be motivated to teach your children and/or grandchildren the eternal truths you’ve learned!

A GML reader comment worth repeating . . .

Regarding the question of going on birth control before getting married, I would say absolutely not. My husband and I chose education, career and fun over children early in our marriage and, in hindsight, I regret it. Children truly are a blessing from God and if I had it to do all over again, I would throw the birth control out the window and have a house full of kids! After 23 years of marriage, we have three children; 16, 13 and 3 and love the life the Lord has blessed us with! Trust your husband’s concerns, stay off the pill and see where the Lord takes you!
