Verse of the Day — John 10:30

(Jesus said) I and the Father are one.

Jesus is God.

Toward the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, at the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem (John 10:22-39), Jewish leaders asked Him point blank, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly” (v. 24). Jesus, in no uncertain terms, answered that he was more than the Messiah, He was God! To this they “took up stones to stone Him” (v. 31).

At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?”

The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.”

Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I SAID, YOU ARE GODS’? If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God‘? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp. —John 10:22-39

The Greek word translated “one” in this verse is neuter: “one thing,” not “one person.” In other words, Jesus did not say that He and the Father are identical, but rather, He and the Father have essential unity together, that He enjoys exact unity of nature and actions with His Father. The Jews clearly understood this and tried to stone Him for blasphemy.

. . . God gave them a spirit of stupor,
Eyes to see not and ears to hear not,
Down to this very day.
—Romans 11:8

The following quote was in our newspaper:

“In his toughest language yet on Israeli military and economic measures, the United Nations President said the world had every right to criticize Israel for occupying Arab land and for its ‘excessively harsh response’ to Palestinian uprisings.” —Alistair Lyon, Reuters.

Can you comment on this statement?

The U.N. doesn’t know what it’s talking about. To understand what is going on in Israel, you need to know the facts. Consider these:

The Jews have had a continuous presence in the land of Israel for 3,300 years, always calling Jerusalem their capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. In 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel, Arab refugees in Israel first began identifying themselves as part of a “Palestinian” people.

Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Old Testament, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran/Muslim bible. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never once visited Jerusalem.

In 1948, Arab leaders told the Arabs living in Israel to flee from the Jews to escape being killed. 70% left without ever seeing a Jewish soldier. Those that stayed in Israel, as a group, became Israeli citizens, vote, and have been afforded work and business opportunities far beyond that of any other Arab-controlled country.

Arab nations initiated all five Arab/Israeli wars and lost each one. The Gaza and West Bank are areas that were captured while defending Israel in the 1967 war. After the war, Israel tried to return Gaza to Egypt, and they refused to take it back. Israel also tried to give the West Bank back to Jordan, and they refused to take it.

Israel was left “occupying” these areas and has been pressured/forced by the U.N. to negotiate with the Palestinians to take control. The Arabs, to this day, call for the destruction of Israel.

Muslims claim Jerusalem to be the “Third Holiest Site in Islam.” This claim can only be traced back to the 1930s. Muslims claim Mohammed ascended to heaven from Jerusalem, but the Muslims did not capture Jerusalem until Khalif Omar took the city in 638, six years after the Prophet Mohammed died. And “Jerusalem” is not even mentioned in the Koran!

Thousands of Arabs have died due to their irrational thinking. But this was prophesied over 3000 years ago:

Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they shall be too many to count.” The angel of the LORD said to her further,
“Behold, you are with child,
And you shall bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
And he will be a WILD DONKEY OF A MAN,
And he will live to the east of all his brothers.” (CAPS USED FOR EMPHASIS)
—Genesis 16:10-12

Since the Arabs will always be “irrational,” the only lasting peace will come when Jesus returns and reigns from Jerusalem for 1000 years as King of Kings.
