Verse of the Day — Ephesians 6:12

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers . . . powers . . . world forces of this darkness . . . spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

When someone does something sinful, be upset with the sin, not the sinner.

Satan will be thrown out of the “heavenlies” one day, but until that time, he is still:

  • The “prince of the power of the air.”

in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. —Ephesians 2:2
  • And the “God of this world.”

in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. —2 Corinthians 4:4
He has two main objectives:
  • Keeping the lost lost.

I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. —Matthew 16:18
  • Robbing believers of spiritual blessings.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ —Ephesians 1:3
So it’s not surprising that everything sinful that we deal with each day is rooted in Satan’s realm. The poor souls he uses to do his deeds have no clue they are working for Satan, their “father.”

You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. —John 8:44

It’s always good to remember that if it weren’t for God, we’d still be there too!

Such were some of you, but you were washed, . . . sanctified, . . . justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ . . . —1 Corinthians 6:11

Dear Compass (Comments re: Lordship Salvation),

“I find your comments on Lordship Salvation disturbing . . .”

“You revealed a lack of knowledge of what people call Lordship Salvation—it’s simply Biblical principles that are difficult for the American culture to swallow.”

“If you don’t believe in Lordship Salvation, then the gospel is ‘fire insurance’ for free!”

“Did I just hear GML call the ‘narrow way’ a false Christianity?”

We do not believe in Lordship Salvation if by that phrase you mean that you must SEE good works in someone’s life before you know that they are a Christian and/or if you are saved you WILL do good works. That violates scripture.

For instance, regarding judgment day for Christians, there are those whose EVERY WORK is burned up, yet they are still saved.

If any man’s work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. —1 Corinthians 3:15

Our salvation is totally because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, not what we did right or wrong on the earth:

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy . . . —Titus 3:5

. . . you have been saved through faith . . . the gift of God; not as a result of works . . . —Ephesians 2:8-9

by His doing you are in Christ Jesus . . . —1 Corinthians 1:30

(God) who has saved us . . . not according to our works . . . —2 Timothy 1:9

The Bible has examples of people who were saved by faith while lacking commitment. Lot never had a commitment to anything, yet he was counted righteous.

and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men —2 Peter 2:7

The believers at Ephesus were saved and knew that they should give up their use of magic but did not (some for two years). Their salvation was not dependent on their submission to the Lordship of Christ over their sinful use of magic.

There is also the example that Jesus gave about the serpents in the wilderness. The Israelites had only to look in the direction of the pole with the snake in order to be saved.

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. —John 3:14-15

So the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us.” And Moses interceded for the people. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.” —Numbers 21:7-8

And eternal salvation, once gained, can never be lost. You cannot have “eternal” salvation today and not have it tomorrow—that’s impossible! Salvation is not based on anything you did, are doing, or will do. To be saved, you simply have to trust Jesus’ substitutionary death on the cross to pay for your sins that would prevent you from going to heaven.

Christians are judged on how much we allowed, by faith, the Lord to use us on this earth.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. —2 Corinthians 5:10

This should be HUGE motivation for anyone with a single brain cell to “run for Christ” with every breath while on this earth.

holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. —Philippians 2:16
