Verse of the Day — Song of Solomon 4:9

You have made my heart beat faster, my bride . . . with a single glance of your eyes . . .

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Guys, don’t forget Valentine’s Day!

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

A good wife is a gift and reward from the Lord.

House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers,
But a prudent wife is from the LORD.
—Proverbs 19:14

Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. —Ecclesiastes 9:9

Thus, it’s nice for men to have the chance to show how much they are thankful. A simple “I love you” does wonders.

Husbands are given special instructions regarding their wives. They are to:

  • Love them.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband. —Ephesians 5:25-33
  • Comfort them.

Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” —1 Samuel 1:8
  • Please them.

but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife —1 Corinthians 7:33
  • Praise them.

    Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, . . .
    —Proverbs 31:28
  • Respect them.

The heart of her husband trusts in her,
And he will have no lack of gain.
    —Proverbs 31:11

You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. —1 Peter 3:7

  • Enjoy them.

Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. —Ecclesiastes 9:9
  • Remain faithful to them.

You shall not commit adultery. —Exodus 20:14

Drink water from your own cistern
And fresh water from your own well.
Should your springs be dispersed abroad,
Streams of water in the streets?
    Let them be yours alone
And not for strangers with you.
    Let your fountain be blessed,
And rejoice in the wife of your youth.
As a loving hind and a graceful doe,
    Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
Be exhilarated always with her love
    .
    —Proverbs 5:15-19

  • And be intimate with them.

The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. —1 Corinthians 7:3-5

He who finds a wife finds a good thing . . . —Proverbs 18:22

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Dear Compass,

Why would the discovery of the Ten Commandments be tied to Rapture?

(Editor’s note: This was one of several emails we received regarding this.)

ANSWER:

We didn’t intend for our comments to tie Rapture to the discovery of the Ten Commandments. We were referring to the situation in Israel as a whole. Since 1948, God has been regathering the Jews to their homeland after 1900 years of prophesied displacement.

Therefore say, “Thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Though I had removed them far away among the nations and though I had scattered them among the countries, yet I was a sanctuary for them a little while in the countries where they had gone.'” —Ezekiel 11:16

Then they will know that I am the LORD their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer. —Ezekiel 39:28
See also Hosea 3:4 and 9:17.

It is amazing to watch as they have a zeal for Israel but not for God. Their hearts are still hardened, and most of the population are Jewish only culturally. Many observe the Sabbath rest, but few attend Temple. Most have a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah, but few read the Torah. There are some Orthodox Jews (akin to Christian legalists) who want the Jewish Temple built, but most simply don’t care one way or the other. They have become so secularized and worldly influenced that over 80% believe in evolution.

However, there will come a time when the nation will again go back to sacrifices in the temple.

And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week [7 years], but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate. —Daniel 9:27

144,000 will become evangelists for the coming Messiah.

And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel —Revelation 7:4

Millions will be murdered for their faith.

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.” Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat —Revelation 7:9-16

What could God use to cause the nation to wake up and again turn to God? Obviously, Elijah and the other witness (Revelation 11:1-12) showing up in sackcloth and ashes will get their attention (Revelation 11). But so also would the discovery of the Ark of the Covenant and the original Ten Commandments.

And when they begin to understand their true roots, they will want to rebuild their Temple, make sacrifices to atone for their sinfulness, etc. Therefore, we theorized that it would be one of the last signs before the Church was removed. This is certainly a theory based on scripture, but maybe a stretch for some.
