Verse of the Day — Luke 12:51

Jesus said, “Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Christianity sometimes means making hard choices.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

Committing your life to Christ means your loyalty to Jesus is greater than your loyalty to your family.

They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. —Luke 12:53
See also Luke 14:26 and Matthew 19:29.

Luke 9:59-62 records a man who wanted to go home to bury his father before he left to follow Jesus and another who simply wanted to go home to say goodbye before following Jesus. But Jesus rebuked both saying, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior is a HUGE step in one’s life. It means you will follow Jesus regardless of the cost—because in the end, you know it’s worth the price.

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Dear Compass,

I have been told that once you have prayed for a person’s salvation that God would honor the request at some point. Maybe not in our time frame but it would happen before the person died. Can you tell me where that is in the Bible?

ANSWER:

That’s not in the Bible. Salvation is between a person and God, period! No one else can influence that decision. Man cannot will it. No one’s salvation is based on anything another human does or does not do.

QUESTION

Dear Compass,

How does one get his name put into the “Book of Life” if not through receiving Christ as their Lord and Savior?

ANSWER

It’s just the opposite. The “Book of Life” has everyone’s name ever conceived written in it.

But now, if You will, forgive their sin–and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written! —Exodus 32:32

If you commit the unpardonable sin

. .&nbsp. whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him —Matthew 12:32

which is going your whole life without trusting Jesus as your Lord and Savior

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. —John 8:24

your name is blotted out

The LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.” —Exodus 32:33
See also 2 Kings 14:27 and Deuteronomy 29:20.

and you are judged on your own merit

the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. —Revelation 20:12b

which means you will go to hell for eternity

And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. —Revelation 20:15

If, however, you have trusted Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection to pay for your sins, you are not judged (for salvation). Seems like a no-brainer to us.
