Verse of the Day — Deuteronomy 33:26-27

There is none like the God of Jeshurun (Israel), Who rides the heavens to your help, and through the skies in His majesty. The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

To be “in Christ” is to be in the safest, most secure place in the universe.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

It is an amazing thing to consider that the God of the universe, the God of all creation, cares about us so deeply and so intimately that He will traverse the heavens “to our help.”

This God is our dwelling place, which is also translated “refuge.” As the world around us alters and changes at a staggering speed, those of us who trust in Him can live in a place that is eternally safe and secure. And we are not only kept safe, we are held in His “everlasting arms.”

God wanted Israel to understand, and us as well, that His full power and majesty are directed toward the care and protection of His children.

There is none like Him.

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Dear Compass,

My pastor apparently doesn’t believe in Jesus reigning as King on the earth for 1000 years. Do you think I should change churches?

ANSWER:

Changing churches is a major, major consideration, and the decision generally should not be made based on a single verse regarding eschatology.

Presbyterian, Episcopal, Lutheran, Catholic, Church of Christ and others teach that Jesus is already reigning in heaven, and when He returns, the earth will burn up and God will set up a new heaven and earth. This is called A-millennial theology, meaning no 1000-year reign of Jesus on earth.

More importantly, they also teach that Israel has no future role (2 Peter 3). Most major denominations established since late 1800s (Baptists, Calvary Chapels, Bible Churches, etc.) believe that Jesus will return and reign as King on earth for 1000 years and that Israel still has promises that are yet to be fulfilled (Revelation 20). This is called dispensational teaching.

There are very Godly men on both sides of this debate. Your question of which church to attend is simple—Does your church properly equip you to be used by God in the lives of those around you? If it is equipping you (eschatology considered as one of many important aspects), then serve the Lord with gladness. If you are not being equipped, talk to your pastor about your concerns and pray for God’s direction.

Having said all that, it would be difficult for us to recommend you attend a church that does not support Israel as God’s chosen people, with God’s past promises yet to be fulfilled in the future.
