Verse of the Day — John 15:11

These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Only God can give us TRUE joy.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

For thousands of years, Satan has tried to make us think that the more intimately we know God, the less joy we will have in this life. Yet Jesus said just the opposite is true. It is in knowing God more intimately that we find life’s greatest fulfillment, freedom, peace, and true joy:

. . . ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.” —John 16:24

When things seem incredibly difficult, don’t seek joy from the world, who can only give you false or temporary help. Rather seek the true joy from knowing Christ who transcends this world. Regardless of difficulties allowed by God in this life, when your days are over, you win. And by understanding that incredible concept, you can have “inexpressible joy.”

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory —1 Peter 1:8

QUESTION FOR THE DAY

Dear Compass,

I am a new Christian who has just discovered God’s agape love. But, I am having a hard time understanding how my God of love could eternally damn anyone to hell. Can you point me to a verse?

ANSWER:

Our God of love is also a God of justice.

. . . the Lord is a God of justice. —Isaiah 30:18

When you were born, you were born in sin, separated from God, but free to choose. And because God is just, you were doomed to hell due to your sin nature. But, also being a loving God, He paid the price for your sin through His sinless Son, Jesus.

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. —1 Corinthians 6:20

Therefore, the question should not be “why would God send anyone to hell?” but rather “why did He save any of us?”

The comments on Santa Claus were, shall we say, “spirited.” It’s difficult for some people to let go of traditions, even when faced with Scripture mandates. To this end, we wrote a more in-depth article entitled “Satan’s Claws/Santa’s Claws” in a previous Compass eNews. If you wish to read this article, click here.
